Hello, I bought a '53 plate ELX JTD 115 yesterday. Got it for a good price and am quite pleased with it. There are a few issues with it though and some advice would be nice.

1, The clutch bite is low to the floor and I have to push the pedal right down to get a clean change, but it is a very nice change if I do that. Other Multi's I tried also had the same clutch feel. Is it not possible to get the bite higher? It's almost like there's air in the hydraulics.

2, We went for sunday lunch today and there were five of us in it. Pulling round left hand bends I could hear a knocking noise on the right. Could this be a cv joint?

3, The air con is probably not quite as cold as it should be. Presumably a recharge will sort this.

Thanks,

Dave.

The clutch pedal is not adjustable -- they all bite very near the floor. But, search this forum for many tales of woe about clutch troubles, especially failed hydraulic cylinders.

As well as CV joint, again check for antiroll bar bushes or worn drop links. Also, on rear drum braked models, the handbrake cable dropping out of its retaining clips ahead of the o/s rear wheel and rubbing against the inside of the wheel rim.

Hiya, I bought a 51 plate 'pla recently and you note the exact things mine had.
I do think it'll be the same ways I'm resolving mine bit by bit when money allows lol.

The clutch will be worn (sorry but it is not the hydraulics, I did wonder myself first off) I've just had a new one fitted and it's wonderful, biting point around half way up the travel rather than on the floor and even the pedal feels different throughout it's travel. My mechanic even showed me the old clutch plate, it was VERY worn! The guy who owned it before me must've always "rode the clutch".

The cluncking is usually antiroll bar bushes, or drop links, there's posts all over the forum for that.

The aircon will need looking at by a qualified aircon engineer as leaks etc don't show up when you take it to your normal recharge guy, they recharge under vacuum conditions and it can leak later under pressure when it's been working. Hopefully there won't be any leaks. Air con does lose so much gas over time anyhow so it's best to recharge every couple of years even with a working system.

Hope that helps :)

Thanks both for the info. I'm not desperate yet with the clutch and I don't drive hard (those days went years ago!) so I think it will last a few thou yet. I've been looking around the site and might buy one of those fast road clutches then get the local garage to do it. (good bloke).
