what would be the easiest way to get some of the oil out, just t play it safe? Undo the sump plug a little and let some drain out?

Thanks!

If you do that you will have oil everywhere.
If you must drain some off do as NumanR suggested and take it back otherwise unscrew oil-filter and empty it which will not cause all of the oil to be dumped!

problem is the guy at the garage doesn't think its overfilled, he says its fine.
basically, he's an arsehole.

so will have to do it myself and warn others of this poor workmanship.

The easiest way is to place a large container under the sump and drain some oil out by loosening the sump plug. It will be messy but its quick and easy. Have some more new oil ready in case you drain too much.

Then go tip the extra used oil you drained off over the head of the idiot who over filled it in the first place.

for the very little amount over why bother!! i think we all have slightly over filled with oil at one point or another, for the small amount you have been overfilled with it wont cause a problem, the oil you have viscosty is fine so i would just leave it.
I accidently over filled a couple of services ago - mind was on somthing else before i knew it i had put quiet a bit more in - the car ran fine until i changed the oil again 4 months later.
you may even find you might loose that oil though a slight leak or burn within a few months..

I'm sure mine is / has been overfilled too at some point, the dipstick is ridiculous to read even if you follow the ott manual. I don't think that amount is worth siphoning off but if it'll set your mind at ease.
