Technical JTD engine conversion

Hi

Something in my Y reg punto standard diesel engine has decided to fall T**Ts up and so basically I need a new engine.

Only problem is I can only find the JTD complete engine from another Mk2 punto. The engines look quite different but how much involved will it be to convert my standard diesel to to turbo diesel jtd?

Obviously I will need the ecu from the donor car as well as the engine but what else is different? Does the JTD have a lot more sensors? Will the gearbox, driveshafts etc fit?

Any input would be welcome. I would be doing the work myself and have access to the complete donor car for other bits and bobs.

hi! welcome to the forum
not sure the gearbox will fit, you'll also need the exhaust manifold for the for the turbo
as you have the donor car just swap everything over engine,ecu,gearbox,brakes if there different

Well I am getting the engine from a scrappy so dont really have the option to take everything but they did say you can take whatever it need.

The manifold would come with the engine anyway.

I was wondering if I could just connect the engine up without the turbo??

you could but you'd loose alot of power as its designed for the turbo ,it has lower compression than a non turbo engine plus you'd need a remap and possibly a new manifold

Oh nuts. The clutches are different, the jtd being 30mm bigger. Most likely the gearboxes are different too.

Guess im gonna have to abandon that idea.

Either that or see if they will sell you the front end of the car then you will have everything you need, anything extra that you dont use can always be sold on.
