Well in theory light water plants aren't meant to go boom like an atomic bomb. But who knows.....

they ain't meant to but like you say who the hell knows for sure.
Just watching on sky news of the actual building blowing up but the reactor is still safe-ish at the moment.
It is scarey to know that all governments want this type of thing built and don't think of the consequencies (spelling) if anything does go wrong

Not like Japan really has a lot of choice as they're not a 'producer' of fossil fuels so coal, oil, gas are not economically viable. And lets say they had the potential for hydro power - what would be a bigger disaster, this little building falling over or an entire dam bursting and flooding a huge area?

Agreed, until we perfect fusion power, nuclear is really the only way to go without using up dwindling natural resources and still be able to effectively manage our hunger for vast quantities of electricity. Solar, wind, hydro and tidal are good but in terms of kw per acre of land used (in my opinion) nuclear is our only real option just now.

You've got to remember though that coal power stations still kill people. People die every day from respiratory problems that wouldn't happen if we didn't have coal power stations. Granted that the newish ones are better but the ideal solution is nuclear and renewable energy together.
