Hello, Panda owners. It's a while since I've been around these parts, but I was flicking through some photos the other day and saw some of my Panda from not long before I sold it. I forgot how clean it was...

Well after four years of Panda ownership I've since had another four vehicles, which says a lot for the ease and enjoyment of owning one of the little Italian pocket rockets. I bought a 1988 Nissan Sunny which I ran for a year and grew quite fond of, then got a 1991 Proton GL as a stop-gap while I had the Sunny off the road for a minor suspension repair. I soon sold the Proton, though, and got rid of the Sunny when I had fixed it and got a Mk1 Toyota MR2, but after just under 6 months I grew tired of the noise it made (Janspeed exhaust, sounded awesome but was a pain in the arse on long trips) and was beginning to wonder if it was going to dissolve into a pile of iron oxide on the drive.

So now I've got a 205 with the 1.8 TD lump in and I have to say it's an excellent blend of performance, economy, retro charm and fun factor. Took bleedin' ages to find one in good nick with that engine.

It's good to see some of the regulars still posting here and a lot of new faces, too. Has anyone heard from Alan D recently? He was a massive contributor of technical knowledge and banter back in the day, but on my occasional visits here I've not seen anything by him.

Anyway I hope you are all well and will now leave you to call me a non-Panda owning traitor to the Fiat community.

Cheers.

Wotcha FP,

Glad to hear you are still alive and kicking! Still got my Panda, which is going strong (although MOT time looms ), and it's been joined by a Barchetta in the fleet too. :)

As with most forums, people come and go.. Alan D is missed, but from what I understand (very much from the sidelines, I must add) he had problems outside of the forum and decided to re-arrange his priorities. We've got to respect his decision, who knows one day he might return.

I also don't think we've heard from Juicy Lucy in a while, who bought your old car. I think it took a knock in the car park where she worked, maybe it never recovered from that. (n)

Anyway, don't be a stranger, even if you do drive a particulate-belching pile of french poo-poo.. :p

Cheers,

Plug

PS.. upgraded that Alpha 100 yet?

Howdy, thanks for the replies chaps!

MEP - 205 has done 101k. I would usually turn my nose up at that but it's backed up with plenty of history and the car drives as though it has had a very easy life indeed. I hope to continue the trend.

Blurredman - thanks for replying, what got you into Pandas? I'll check your car(s) out at some point.

Martin - I read about your disappointment with the last Panda you saw. There are a few good ones out there though, but I suppose they're not getting any easier to find. Indeed just yesterday I was admiring a certain 1.2 converted twin sunroofer on these classifieds. I'll give you a tenner towards it!

Plug - glad to hear your Panda is still going strong. How long have you had it for now? A Barchetta is a very nice car to go alongside it, though I don't think I could put up with driving a left hooker on British roads. I'm still an avid user of my A100, I've taken nearly 16,000 photos with it. It does everything I want it to and I feel no need to replace it. Might get a nice wide angle lens this year, come to think of it...

I hope my old Panda is ok. I saw it at the Retro Rides Gathering last year and it looked like it was still going strong.

:)

Not sure if it was the Same Diesel lump as yours (not sure if it was just one they used in the 205?), but back 2 years ago a mate of mine had a 3-door J-reg Diesel one with 340k on the clock. Yes 340! :p

Hay Sam!

Nice to see you on here, do see you on Facebook a bit with the cars (The Mr2 was very very nice)

BTW Alan Duthie is on FB as well if you wanted to say hi... With a name like that he'll be pretty easy to find

Fred the Fiat Bear is on there too somewere but he's not really into all that social malarky

Jim
