Insurance comapnys being super unproffesional!

i've been offered a car for mucho cheapness, and as im toying with the idea of getting the cinq sorted properly, i thought id get a few quotes

First insurance company provided a quote for £2,500, aye, right!!... told them to stick it as i knew i could get it for much, much less

second one hung up the phone on me twice when i told them what i wanted to insure.... so i phoned them back to call them a bunch of knobs, and hung up on them :laugh4:

Third lot gave a quote of £15,000!!

fourth lot laughed and asked if i was joking when the car was mentioned

fifth said i didnt have a chance of anyone insuring me for this car...

had a look online. and funnily, i can get insurance on it quite easily... okay, still expensive, but found out my current insurers are doing a new offer on a second car policy. Before they didnt do any deals like that, so gave them a call, now well down into 3 figures for insurance :)

i now need to decide if i can take the second car on.... oh yeah, its a calibra 2.0 16v, pretty rough round the edges body wise, but solid enough, taxed and tested. still, i dont think it was worth having 5 insurance companies acting like total bellends. If it was a Ferrari f40, a porsche 911 turbo or a bentley, i could see why they might find it funny a 20 year old trying to insure it, a 12-13 year old vauxhall ffs? haha

i didnt get that response when i insured the punto hgt, which is in the same insurance group, but had a few mods, whats changed in the past 6 months?

Perhaps they thought you meant that well known rocketship of a car, the Calibra Turbo. In which case £15k is quite reasonable. ;)

ps Did you tell them your surname was Abramovich ?

when they (at direct line) quoted 15k, the girl stopped, and had a double take. had to count the zero's and went, errr, yeah, 15 thousand. i did ask if that included breakdown cover and windscreen cover ;) on tpf&t the windscreen cover was an extra £32. at which point even she couldnt stop laughing!, i did also ask her what time the banks were open until, and if she knew of any bandits that could maybe help me out.... but alas, she didnt know of any nearby ;)

i would have the calibra if i could get it insured for £600, my cinq is that with the mods declared :(

Best thing is, i could get a 3.0 v8 petrol land rover that im sure i could probably do alot more damage with, insured for only 35 a year more than the cinq fully comp!

insurance is a totally random thing, they make the prices up if your under 25, at one stage before i got the punto hgt, a cinq would have cost me 300 more to insure than the hgt!, how random is that, its only 10 or 11 groups lower

Out of interest, did you try Chris Knott with our discount scheme?

i havent yet, the best quote i have is who im with for the cinq, but i'll give them a ring should i take on the vaux, i'll be interested to see if they can undercut it any :)

HOW MUCH?????????????????

its a feckin 13 yo car, yes in its heyday it was prob considered to be a sporty car but £15k???????????

bloody insurance companies, when I had my cally I was only £400 f/c iirc

That's just too much, can't believe that for the car and your age.

I remember Jeremy Clarkson famously trying to get a quote on an Escort Cossie in the mid-90's and it ended up being £24k or something. Honestly, some of these insurance companies just like to take the P.

I'd be only too happy if they just took the p's its taking the £'s that pisses me off (y)

pfft, i could buy a brand new GP abarth for the price they quoted you, had a grand and a half left for insurance, and probably still have money left over!:nutter:

I'll raise you..........I could buy a Ferrari(mondial or 400) and insure it for less than £15k. I win(that's cos I is ancient!)

But then you wouldn't let me come to meets and I'd be an outcast since I am too poor to join the Ferrari drivers club(seriously wedged up bunch!)

its ok tony, you could tag along wi me in my not-even-fiat-goin-to-fiat-club-meets
vec:laugh4:
