Hi I have a 2004 2.8 JTD motorhome,
I suspect the wastegate is stuck, is it possible to free off without having to take the exhaust manifold complete with turbo off.
any help appreciated
Sorry for the miss-types in the title!

Loosen the nuts holding actuator to the bracket, remove the c clip holding it to the wastegate you should have enough leeway now to remove the rod from the wastegate lever.

Now you can check how freely the wastegate opens and closes.

Or if you have a mighty vac you can open and close it with that and listen for the satisfying clack when it closes, put your finger on the pivot to feel for stiffness jamming etc.

Thanks for your reply.
Can I querry the use of a vacuum to work the waste gate, having had a study of elearn for the turbo, I would have thought that the actuator would be pressure actuated.

Same engine........just replaced the front exhaust pipe so up close to the waste-gate. So trying to move the rod from left to right and expecting the gate to open and close was a waste of time..........yes? (n)

While the front is still in the air, could I with help, rev up the engine and watch the waste-gate to see if it moves?

Yes, mighty vac has a pressure output on the top.

It opens at about 1 bar, thats 14.7psi, diaphragm is I guess about 4 square inches so you'd have to apply about 60lbs pressure to move it. Its unlikely you'll make enough boost move it with the engine under no load.
