Don't mismatch the memory with the mobo, lower spec ram will only cause a bottleneck in the buses and slow the whole system down, the pc will only be as fast as the slowest component, match the specs and save yourself the hassle.

FYI, a 754/939/AM2 sempron will outperform an Athlon.

And you can't use PC2100 memory with that Athlon processor.
