Technical is there a plug in diognostics thing for a punto mk1?

hello my punto has a slight missfire in first gear i want to find the thing where you plug it into a computer and it gives you fault codes i took it to friend who owns a garage and he couldnt find it?? is there 1 on a punto mk1 sporting if yes sould you let me know where it is thanks if you know

Yes, open the bonnet, look to your left, there is a big metallic box. That is your ECU and there is a diagnostic plug hanging from it.

ive jsut had look there is a connector by the big metal box is that it??? its not plugged into anything it has a cap on the end of it
