Hi folks,

I have a problem with my cinquecento, 1992 1000cc.
Basically if you use the brakes normally the pedal sinks to the floor and the brakes don't work very well at all. If you push the brake pedal quickly and hard the the brakes work better.
After changing the brake fluid and front shoes and disk there is no change and we have also bled the system but still no change, I think it might be the master cylinder is at fault and wondered if anybody could advise on how difficult it would be to change it for a new one? I should be up to the task unless anything like specialist tools are needed.

Any help and advice is much appraciated,
Thanks,

fyi, if it's a 1992 then it'll be 899cc ;)

What you describe does sound like a damaged seal in the master cylinder. You will need a brake spanner to remove the brake lines from the master cylinder.

Other than that, no specialist tools and it is quite an easy job. Bit awkward. Just careful to not let dirt into the system.

If I remember correctly, it's a pain in the bottom to get the res out and then back in again (it's just a push fit).

Don't forget that you'll need to bleed all the brakes after doing this, but you've already changed the fluid so you should know what you're doing there :)
