Hi,
I've got to do something "different" to the lighting in my houses kitchen,
there is a VERY awkward layout, that means it just doesn't work.

so - I've watched "GrandDesigns" - George etc

and have seen things a bit like THIS;
http://lightwavelaser.com/gallery-ceilings-skylights.htm

a suspended plate / panel

http://lightwavelaser.com/p7ssm_img...ng-panels-Moorings-Park-Trio-Rest_600h_fs.jpg

does anybody know a company doing such in the UK..??,

I basically want a flat board panel - painted White( probably)
suspended
around 4/6 inches from the conventional ceiling, and lighting kit will be UNDER the panel / concealed.. - lighting the top of walls.

sounds simple..just looking for ideas / info.

cheers,
Charlie - Oxford

easy, if your practically minded

just need to find where wooden joists are in ceiling.

make some supports to suspend panel

mount panel.

If you fancied the steel idea, I'd ask your local laser cutters
they would be able to fold some adequate supports as well.

think about lighting, bear in mind you might need an sparky cough.

What I'd do.

make an appropriate amount of supports,
out of st/steel tube capped one end, to screw to ceiling and doglegged to attach to panel.

decide if I wanted a steel or wood panel.

I like the idea of wallpapered wood

mount flexible led lighting, stip

then cheap out and connect.

screw supports to ceiling, to be honest plasterboard fixings will do

get assistant to hold panel up to supports,
if your alone rent / buy

connect electrics, prob should have connected half this stuff before.

admire your work, with your 4th beer, release you wish it was different somehow

maybe use

might allow for easier fitting, and looks better than just a tube appearing out of roof

It's quite a popular request my brother gets for camper vans he build s

Not one of his just an example I found on Google.

In vans it usually carpeted of fabric covered.

You don't need a huge gap 6 inches would be far to wide a gap.

LED lighting strips are a must to keep the light even. Philips Hue lights are good (we have them under our kitchen cupboards) but very expensive.

As pointed out you can buy a board. Paint it and make some blocks up to suspend it. It's not a terribly complicated thing to do.
