Technical Interchangeability

A resource I think would be very helpful as some of our 500’s get on in age, is a collection of everyone’s experience with replacing and upgrading parts.
Has someone created a list already and I just haven’t found it?

To start with:
What years have interchangeable parts?
2007-2013 I think are much the same, BUT what about even newer models?

Eg:

• can the Radio from a 2013 be put into a 2007?
• what about something like the climate control/heater box?
• or the steering wheel & control buttons?
• are the engine mounts the same between years or models?

• what is involved In fitting a newer component to an older model?
• Is it a simple swap, or are computers involved?

• Which Ford Ka parts are interchangeable with the 500?

I’ve replaced a few parts on my 2011 in my own experience 07/14 parts work the best on cars of the same age
Anything technical IE: 2016 onward most of these don’t work with older cars as fiat in their wisdom changed bits n bobs with their “facelift”

I’d be very careful or you could (like I did in the past) waste money on non compatible parts

A 2013 head unit in theory should work on a 2007 but essentially they are so similar why would you unless yours is broken

Steering wheel buttons work fine
Engine mounts I’ve no idea but do your research they could be the same
If it’s anything tech you may need multiecuscan to iron out any niggles most of us use it to read error codes ect….
As for the ford KA: the engine is similar if not virtually identical but I believe that’s about it

A later heater box should be similar enough but again anything post late 2015 may not fit older 500s
