insurance quote more than the cars worth

Hello all , im 36,got 7yrs protected no claims,have legal cover,3points,1 crash(my fault),drive a marea 2.0 20v,living in Essex , last year before the points + crash my insurance was £474-big smiles!! , this year the same company(budget) quoted me £917-no smiles.
After using confused.com i went back to esure where iv now got all i had ,plus Mrs Joker+both my parents on my policy for £570-!! big smiles again.
I think i'l be staying with Esure for the foresee-able future. it pays to shop around.

The one I use at renewal time is moneysupermarket.com

Lasy year fully comp with legal cover and protected no claims (72%) the premium was £195 with a £300 excess, that's with Esure.

I'm not much older than you, I have no points and no accidents.

In what way do you think the cost of the car is linked to the cost of the insurance....

A £100 banger can easily kill/main a 3rd party as much as a £100k supercar!
