insurance fronting

wat if ur mams a big chav and likes the same as u lol ?
I don't think that will quite fly with them.

Being honest here if you claimed and looking at your siggy, they'll take one look at the car and refuse. It's too obvious your the main driver :D

If accident rates for young drivers don't improve the Gov. will step in and force 17 yr olds to drive low powered cars, like they did with bikes.
what's wrong with having a Panda for a couple of years untill your premiums come down anyway?

i think they should anyway.takes pressure off those that cant afford 'good' cars and will lower accident rates regardless of the 'you can crash a 1.1 brigade'
my 1st couple of cars were 1/1.1's so it wouldnt have made a difference

it dosent how fast it goses if it moves it can crash basically there r ideas about and have no care or respect for other road users but not all young drivers drive 400mph dont the road i stick to the speed limit in build up areas and if theres children around i slow right down the only time i speed is on the motorway but if its wet and dangerous driving conditions i normally stick to around 50mph but i am a safe driver

you sound like a safe driver and you do have a low powered car but you're going to have to be careful cos of the mods on your car. If there was a claim the insurance might refuse to pay out.

Maybe insurance is only affordable to 17 yr olds on group 1 cars?

Insurance prices even on group 1 cars arent even that low. Or at least not as low as you might think. It only cost me about £200 more to be insured on my Stilo then it did on a group 2 car.

Not this subject again, with the same newly qualified youngsters saying "I won't crash", "I drive safe", "I ain't a Chav" etc. etc. etc.

If fronting keeps on happening and new drivers keep on crashing all that is likely to happen is that insurance companies will withdraw named driver policies for those under a certain age and/ or with less than a few years of driving experience. Either that, or they'll make named driver policies cost the same as a new driver taking out insurance on their own.

I forsee this happening in the future along with engine capacity restrictions. It can be reversed if new drivers reduced their accident rate but somehow I can't see that happening...

So just seen an advert for this new Polo Bluemotion. Quick look up on their website and I'm thinking this isn't a bad car for a first time driver.
  1. Zero Car Tax
  2. Combined Cycle of 74.3 mpg - Cheap Fuel Costs
  3. Group 5 Insurance
OK pricey at the moment at £12k but still the above is appealing. Then I did an insurance quote on Tesco, over £2.5K

I can understand a bit why fronting does happen. I accept some of that premium will be down to the age and value of the vehicle but it's still a kick in the teeth to fork out that much...

Some people pay more for insurance then they do for the car. Such as someone at work whos brother has a 1.3 Escort, worth about 500 quid, if not a bit less, and he pays over a grand to insure it.

Thats the reason why people drive around with no insurance.

My idea would be to stop people drivign with no insurance, would be that you could have a disc (like a tax disc), in the front windscreen, stating who the policy is named under, who with, and when it expires - this would help a lot and wouldnt cost that much to introduce (its only a little bit of paper).

17 year old, K Reg Fiat Panda 1000 Fire, £300, Insurance of just under £2k. (the panda is group 1 as well)

now i think that is taking the michael, thats even with my parents as named drivers which brings it down slightly.

17 year old, D Reg Jaguar Sovereign 3.6 Straight6 (grandpas old car but they aint worth much now but it is mine). Insurance of £3.5K (Cheapest). Now it would make sense for me to drive the Jag over the panda wouldnt it

p.s. im now 18 and panda exists no more due to errr... problems...

I think this is already done in other European countries.
They have an insurance disc instead of a tax disc (they don't have road tax)

I had no idea insurance was so much for a 17 yr old
On a 1.0 Panda as well

its disgraceful :(

ontop of that ive just been put on an A Class 150 for a week due to grandparents needing me as a driver for a day and the insurance was £33 for a day ro £33 for a week. we chose a week. Whats it like for other people for shortperiods on policys like this?

I think you'd pay that sort of rate for daily insurance no matter what your age is.

Usually found when I've needed Dad's CTR adding me for a week was the better financial option.

insurance prices arnt jsut about the car and whos driving, a big part is played by were you live aswell. you live in a big city you pay the price. performance isnt allways a key factor either it all depends on the car. and things like how popular it is for being stolen. any one remeber the escort xr3 turbos ? they werent that amazing quick but i remeber when i was young getting refuzed quotes even though i could get insurance on cas that cost 3 times as much with big 3 liter engines madness lol

I can get temporary insurance on any car (so far went upto a group 7 focus) for £15 a shot. Thats because its only the admin fee of the insurance company. As i always have insurance with them. More than
