Hi folks, Newbie to this forum but not to the Forum world

I have a 2012 500c PoP...had it for some time now with no issues but recently the Instrument Cluster TFT(LED) center screen started showing Kling-on type spelling and my research took me to a site that had a new cluster. Prior to ordering, I took neg battery cable off and left off overnight to see if this reset car...NoGo. Ordered it (PN: 1RY21JW4AD) and on a side note: I ordered a TFT(LED) panel to replace the one in the cluster installed in car. Going to make it a spare.
Removed/installed new cluster, tested it and though LED readable again, mileage was wrong and blinking; no turn signals; no headlights; no wipers. Besides the assembly that holds all these functions on the steering column, the only other item in line with this is the BCM (Body Control Module). The wiper/headlight assembly cost ~$545 US
In my studies, it seems there is a bus system on the Fiat and when certain items are replaced, they have to be 'programmed' to the BCM, but can't find where the cluster is one of the units that require it...anyone else having this issue, if so, how'd ya fix it? Thanks for any help with this....Boomer

Hello,

Yes, you are right. It needs programming. FIAT calls this procedure proxi alignment. It can be done with MultiEcuScan and AlfaOBD on European vehicles.

The blinking mileage means the car needs the procedure to be done.

First, confirm that it can be done with MES with the US market FIAT.

Then, if you don't feel comfortable with computers, find someone who could do it for you. If you are, you need a MES / AlfaOBD license and the appropriate interface to connect to the BCM. More details on what software / hardware you'll need can be found on the multiecuscan.net website.

There's also an alternate software, maxiecuscan, which apparently offers support of other brands. At least European ;) Might be interesting to check if you have more vehicles.

As far as I remember, the display node is called NQS is FIATs.

Before you or anyone else messes up with the proxi alignment, make a backup:

Thank you Green Vamper, great information and I'll do the research you suggest above.

I do know my car (via reading VIN) was manufactured in Mexico and sent to the USA. I have feelers out to some Fiat Mechanics and as soon as I can verify that using the MES on a USA vehicle is a GO, I'll purchase the OBDII from the website you suggest above.

I plan on getting back on here once finished, so that all will know the outcome!

Thanks again,

Boomer
