I think the problem with my 1.1 single point injection punto (where it is missing on 1/2 cylinders) could be the injectors. when i start it there is an extream smell of petrol. also the injector light is on 24/7

The clue is in your question 'single point injection' means one injector for all four cylinders, so it wouldn't just be restricted to cylinders 1 and 2 if it was this. The petrol smell will be due to this misfire. If spark plugs and HT leads are due replacement, sort these first. Also, how is its coolant level holding up? A head gasket leak between the cooling channels and cylinders would cause a misfire, so we need to eliminate this too.

With the engine running, remove and replace each spark plug lead in turn.

Note which ones make no difference to the running and report back here.

Cheers

Last time i did this (removeing the lead while engine running) i got electricuted and was ill for 3 days. :bang:

Im not too sure about the headgasket. there are some sighns like it has gone and some that it defenetly has not gone. my dad says it sounds like an air leak or something in the cooling system cause it makes a funny noise once the engine is turned off (seperate problem).

It seriously stinks of petrol, coolant level stays the same,

All fixed. it was the coilpack close to the back of the engine which was not working one bit. changed it for one at the scrap yard (£5) which was off a 1.2 16v. The car now runs as sweet as a nut so all fixed.
