they also fitted an additional in-line fuel filter. Why would they do this? Surely if the fuel filter was no good they would replace the one that was there already???

they think it will cure the injector failure from happening again! it wont 
they have assumed it is to do with dirty fuel. its not its a design fault!
at least it shows that they are looking out for ur intrests trying to prevent you from having to have new injectors again

they are a good garage, i've had all 4 replaced now and if they last as long as the first lot do i would be happy. Not that i'm likely to have the car another 65k. lol

Some people can't work out that electrical faults have nowt to do with the fuel

they've always been pretty spot on the diagnosing, then again they do use a machine. lol
certainly better than vauxhall who put 5k worth of parts on our van before they realised that all the problems with it were caused by a wire trapped under the seat, when they wiggled it all the problems came and went. lol
