Info On Turbos

I'm toying with the idea of buying a Coupe Turbo, thing is a few years ago I had a mark 1 & 2 Uno Turbo, and found that having to let the engine run to keep the oil circulating while the turbo cooled down a pain in the ....

Is this still the case with modern turbos or do you still need to treat them carefully.

TURBO TIMER

YOU CAN BUY A THING CALLED A TURBO TIMER, WHICH I BELIEVE DOES THE WORK FOR YOU, NOT SURE HOW IT WORKS, BUT ITS THERE TO STOP THE TURBO OVERHEATING. I THINK IT KEEPS THE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A PREDETERMINED TIME AFTER YOU TURN THE IGNITION OFF.

Turbo timer

Thats right, a turbo timer enables you to keep the engine running for apermited time that is either pre-set or you can set it each time youeself (usually 2-5mins)even with the car all belled up. This gives the turbo a chance to cool down. However there is a downside....... you'll want a decent system otherwise theres no point so your looking at £250+ straight away, it's illegal to leave your car running whilst unatended, so that can get you in trouble with the plod and everyone knows how arse-y they can get about the smallest of things. Last but not least if you do leave your car outside the post office on the timer whilst you run in and sort a 5min job you can always rely on some f**kwit thinking you've left the car running so they try and hop in, and believe me they do, i've seen someone try to get into a blokes GTiR (outside halfords oddly enough) thinking he'd left the key in the ignition and locked it with another, To be honest save yourself £300 and sit in your car for an extra min or two. Only my view others may have different opinions. Hope this may be of some help?

Yes you do as it prevents the turbo's bearings from overheating. I know its a pain, but its good that you know how to treat a turbo.
