General Immobiliser

[:X]Hi I'm new to the cinq scene, having just put a deposit down on a 96 little red sporting model. Collecting next week after mot & bumper respray. Trolling through insurance quotes at the mo, but I dont have any info on the red key immoboliser system. Can anyone help?

the 96 model comes with an immobiliser. before you pay the full balance, make sure you get the RED key with it. You'll be able to tell if it comes with a red key if a "CODE" light displays briefly on the dash when you turn the ignition key on. If they can't provide the red key, HAGGLE the price down cos if the immobiliser system packs in, you're looking at about £600+ to replace the locks, keys and the engine management computer as the immobiliser keys are programmed into the engine management. A new ECU comes with a new RED key and 2 BLUE keys, hence replacement of locks.

If you do get a red key, put it in a safe place and only use the blue key. The red is for programming the immobiliser and not for day-to-day use.

[:X]Cheers. Car comes with red key but no blue keys. Been reading the forums and established blue keys are approx £25 so will pick one up. Just got to sit this very long week out now[V]. Best insurance quote so far £368 fully com

Try www.mini.co.uk and click on insurance cover. these people were really cheap! My renewal came through £2,200 FC 2 years ago thru Zurich Ins' and Mini covered it for £1,195! thats with 2 accidents. They'll provide you with a Mini as a courtsey car if you crash! worth a try. let us know how you get on.
