.... that the 500 was a hairdressers car it's officially gone as of today.

Was in the hairdressers today while the wife was getting her hair done and the guy who owns the place and one of the hairdressers came up to me and asked me a bit about the car and could they have a look and so on.

Oh well! :p

I was refuel the 500 today, next to me was a "lovely" chap in an MX5 admiring the 500 (Gay car of the year don't forget) when up to the next pump pulls a BRIGHT yellow Hummer H3, guy gets out and I joke "you know 1 in 3 men is" Hummer man not happy but MX5 chap says " well all 3 of these cars are!", made my afternoon.

Ps Maxi I am Not flirting lol

I want to get a sticker made up for my rear window that says "They say men in big cars are making up for something..." ;)

We'll see, there's already a 500C and an Abarth, wouldn't cost them much more to produce an Abarth 500C.
The thing is that Fiat are selling all their 500 production as it is so why bother when it's never going to be a great seller?

The Abarth fulfills the purpose of being a halo model and keeping the 500 up there in terms marketing with various racing being done and appearances at the race of champions etc etc. A 500c Abarth just doesn't make any sense. If Fiat were cooking up a new 500 variant I'd put my money on it being a Giardiniera/softroader version. The 500 is already an old persons car, put it on stilts and you've got a guaranteed seller. Old people will be beating each other to death with their zimmer frames to buy a soft roader that looks like a 500 that they can climb into without hurting their hips or knees.

You need only to look at the sort of cars which old people drive like Skoda Roomsters, Citroen Nemo Multispaces (a truly hideous thing) and people carriers in general to see that there's a market for something like this.

You might laugh but I actually think that your photoshops got some minds thinking about what crap they could load up their magazine or blog with and a myth has been born.

i must ask- in what way is the 500 an old persons car 306maxi?

So a Fiat person said that the 500c Abarth was "very likely". Who was this I wonder, Sofia? :ROFLMAO:

Good point! :D

It's frustrates me greatly when people just believe any crap they see printed :shakehead:

Keeforelli - Have you ever parked your car up on a high street or in a supermarket car park and taken note of the people who stop to have a peek at it? I'm not saying the 500 is an old persons car in the sense that it's only driven by old people like say a Vauxhall Agila or something like that but you'd have to be blind if you hadn't noticed that the 500 is quite popular with the older generation.

Definitely... Of my friends and family who I've told about my getting a 500, it's my older colleagues at work and my dad who are *far* more excited about it, on the whole. More excited than I am, frankly! Everyone else thinks I'm mad not to have gone for a Toyota Aygo-alike :p

I see mainly youngish women driving 500s. If it attracts older people then it may have more to do with nostalgia rather than " can I drive standing up in it " like the Aglias of this world. I've never quite understood what the extra 6 ft of headroom is for.

Now, I would not class myself as old, although sadly not young, but I had friends at college you ran original 500s. They could be picked up for around 100 quid.

well, in anwer to the 'old' question, most of the older people i know dont know what the new fiat 500 is!!

(one 60ish guy at the gym asked me if it was one of those 'new electric' cars when he saw it through the window.)

and most of the younger ppl i know are aware of the excitement surrounding the car and were really interested in my car and 500s in general...

obviously personal experience is very subjective- mine is very different.

and this is before we even question the generalisations of what old and young are!!!

500s are like a piece of automotive fashion, which is unfortunately why they get swept into cliches like 'hairdresser' or 'girls' car.

i have one, i am neither!

im sure the fiat forum administrators could review their statistics to tell us who is driving them

306 maxi- i have answered ref the age thing. and no i am not blind.

Can you tell me how you know there isnt going to be a 500c abarth- other than simply saying 'um there isnt going to be one?'

or do you work for fiat product development?

i dont believe any old crap i read, but i am more likely to have some belief in a fairly well respected magazine than a purely speculative forum post.

You have an intriguing opinion of 500s and their owners, i always think that when reading your posts.

Because there isn't going to be one.

Answer a few of these questions.

What's the point of the 500 Abarth and how many of them will sell

What's the point of the 500c and how many of them will sell
