Technical I think my clutch is going?

Ive just got my car back from repair and have been driving a courtesy car around for the last month. When i got my car back ive found that the clutch is extremely heavy and that it bites within 3 inch of pedal movement. Ive had the car back about 2 week now and it doesn't seem right and i just wanted 2 know if a heavy clutch is just how the punto is? or if it needs replacing? Any information/ ideas would be much appreciated

It could be wear on the pressure plate.

A heavy clutch is fine as long as it isnt slipping.

Instructions for testing a clutch;

Step 1
Handbrake up
Step 2
Put into second gear
Step 3
Try to pull away.

If the car does the following;

A. Stall or pull away = you have a good clutch
B. Not stall and not pull away ie can rev freely will minimal movement = Slipping clutch and need to get replaced.
