Serbian plant for topolino is only approved for new Uno at the moment and over a year behind schedule. paperwork only signed in the last month and Topolino won't be seen before 2012 at the very earliest.

agreed, but the guy keeps following me around this forum contradicting me.
And? I have my information that it's going to be different to what you say and you've obviously been told differently. It's a discussion forum you know!

I have had it for eight months now and I've had enough of it, it has to be the most disappointing car I have ever owned. It is just so damn uncomfortable to drive, it has the driving dynamics of a bar stool on castors.

If it were not for the seatbelt I would fall off the seat every time I went round a corner.

This was going to be a keeper, small and cheap to run, seemed a sound second car choice. Do you think I will make much of a loss on it? 5k miles, perfect condition (but very dirty).

What to replace it with though? I'm thinking Polo.
lol, ive had my 500 a year now, i couldnt agree more with what you say!! mine was also a keeper, small cheap etc... but its just horid! the crashy, bouncy, embarrising ride, the dire driving position, its the only car ive known where your bottom falls through a 3 inch gap in the seat when its at its low setting! but i do think there still a good looking car, but thats sadly it....

That's an astonishingly bad review of the 500. Perhaps it's apt if you drive too fast all day on rough roads and have a liquid arse. I have the seat on the lowest setting and my bum doesn't fall out the back.

if you mean seat height adjustment, I have this on the lowest possible setting (I'm 6'3" and have opening sunroof!), it still feels like I'm sitting on a mushroom.

Oh well - as I said - it was just a thought. Would have been a simple remedy perhaps. I'm only 5'8" and I seem to fit the 500 perfectly - perhaps I'm equal to the average height of an Italian :) - haven't got the looks though :(

an opinion on a car is a very subjective thing- posting the view you have on here was always going to cause fireworks, as most ppl are in love with their 500s.

now the ride is bouncy, and you do sit high- but for me, that is all part of its charm...the gear change quality, the gorgeous little 1.2 engine, its quality and its looks more than make up for any shortcomings...

if anything as i have the car longer, it grows on me more....

dynamic prowess in a small car is something only ford and mini really offer...and then not till your paying fiesta/mini prices...upwards of 11k....and minis are as said, sprung stiffly...

it seems odd tho that you didnt notice driving position and ride on test drive---for myself it was THE most apparent difference to the newish, and very comfortable megane i traded out of...

could you really not tell when you first drove it?

ah luxy....

i seem to remember you having issues how slow the 69bhp 1.2 is.......

this 500 dislike has been building for some time.....

It's what you're used to. I've probably done about 3500 of the 500's current 4500 miles and I'm now so used to the 500 that when I get in the Subaru is just feels horrible because it's so different. the position of the gearshift on the 500 is 100% perfect even if the action is a little notchy.

the height of the driving position creates the feeling that you're going to tip over when you're pushing it but really you're fine.

Suspension setup is dictated by the target market. Fords sell big in the UK so they need to have a decent setup for handling a little bit of roughness in the road whereas the roads on the continent are mostly smooth so you can make the car stiffer.

Over the year I went from first testdrive to placing an order I must have had 4 testdrives in various cars and specs and tbh dynamically the 500 never hugely impressed me but I did notice the difference in driving position and was prepared to change for it. Cars are fairly stubborn things and no matter how much you try the 500 will never be a low slung sports car or a comparitively low slung 90's car so you WILL have to change for the car or else you won't get on with it.

Ive said it before, but here goes, the suspension set up on the 500 is poor in terms of ride and body control, but its a fun, cheeky car to drive, I love them. Its not 'good' in the classic sense of the word, but its a great car to drive. It would annoy the hell out of me if it was my daily driver though, so I can see both sides...but I find the seats pretty good tbh!

Ive driven many different 500s, no Abarths though (n) and I still think the purest and most fun is the 1.2 Pop on 14 inch wheels. Very quiet over bumps, smooth ride and fun if rolly handling, its a giggle, its not a serious car its a bit of fun that combines modern levels of safety and quality. Its not a family car, its not a sports car, it is what it is and its good!
