Hi Everyone,

I don't post as frequently as what I should do but it seems lately, I only post something when there is a fault with my car.

Just give you some heads up in info:

  • The Car: Punto Evo Mylife 5dr 2011 Reg.
  • Mileage: 21,422
  • Car History Breakdown:
  • 2 Months Old: Brand New Alternator
  • 8 Month Old: Minor Electrical Bug
  • 18 Month Old: Side Indicator Wiring Loom Needed Replacing
  • 22 Month Old: ABS System Failure. Wiring Loom had rotted
  • 28 Months Old: Accelerator Sensor Failed
  • 29 Months Old: Steering Creaking and Vibrating past more than 1/4 Turn.
  • Two Services Completed By A Fiat Dealer.

There is a lot of problems there isn't there?

The car is owned by me and has no outstanding finance.

I really want to complain to Fiat about this because I no longer trust them or my car.

Any ideas of going about getting any compensation from all this inconvenience because I think quite frankly this is unacceptable for a car of this age and millage to have had so many issues.

I'm genuinely angry at how many problems this car has caused me and being 20 years old, its beginning to really cost me a lot of time and money that I simply just can not afford.

The last point, about the steering, I've yet to go to a dealership because I'm frightened that they will say it isn't covered by the 3rd year dealer warranty and It is just going to cost far too much :(

Hey mate

I've got the same car as you - well a three-door - with 6k more miles than you and I've not had any problems at all; I think you've just been unlucky. I'd certainly complain in writing to Fiat, you've got nothing to lose. Your car still is in its third year of warranty I'd be pushing for this to be extended free of charge at the very least.

I completed a fiat UK survey about my experience when having my car serviced at a dealership a while ago. I wasn't particularly unpleasant about the dealership, but pointed out a few things that I thought were a bit below par. Two days later I'd been emailed by someone senior at fiat wanting to know more. A bit later I had the dealership manager on the 'phone offering me things to placate me.

I'd certainly get in touch with Fiat, in my experience they appeared interested and wanted to put things right.

Hope you get something sorted mate.

I also think you've been unlucky. I have a 60 plate Evo.

Only problem with mine were the front drop links and they were replaced under warranty.

Everything else is still working as it should.

You seem to have been unlucky, but surely all the above were fixed under warranty, so should not have cost you money, only time and inconvenience.

The steering should be covered under the warranty, so get to a dealer soonest, before the warranty runs out. Steering problems rarely cure themselves, and will often get worse, and seized steering can be a very inconvenient!

I read it as last 2 faults at month 28 and 29 ,
= out of warranty, :(
worth complaining though..,
Charlie

Don't they have a 3-year warranty? Therefore covered. Neither of these are service items or normal expected wear & tear. But staying away from the dealer won't make them better.

3rd year cover seems to be very much "at discretion"

YES - I had at first though it to be a full 3 years..
but it seems to be 2 FULL years ,
and essentially the limited 3rd year we used to have the option of buying a few years ago..(n)

I really want to complain to Fiat about this because I no longer trust them or my car.

You can email fiat one and won't get a reply until you email the second time they will ask for the following information

-Registration and chassis numbers
- Name of dealership visited
- Mileage
- Full postal address and contact number
- Do you authorize me to send the dealership your personal data and your feedback in order to guarantee a better and faster management of your request?

So it's worth putting this on your email, I am in contact with fiat for a replacement car because I have done 800mi and broken down 7 or 8 times in 7 months, they will ignore you first then start replying to you. It's worth protesting against and you will have them under the thumb if you mention trading standards, hope you get it sorted, good luck. :)

Hi Everyone...

Thanks for all your answers...

I've chased FIAT and they said they would only cover me if the car actually breaks down at the side of the road.

So no help, no sympathy... nothing really.

I WILL never buy a Fiat or Fiat affiliate branded car again!

Unfortunately it seems to be the attitude of Fiat currently and to say it stinks is an understatement.

I'm currently dealing with them and one of their dealerships through the MotorCodes body, this is 4 months after picking up a car they took 7+ weeks to badly repair, which now has an ongoing fault it didn't have before it went in which they've basically said they can't sort.

Depending upon the results with the MotorCode body involvement legal action will potentially start. Fiat UK have tried washing their hands and the dealer is ignoring official letters or complaint. Seem the think issues will disappear if ignored, but are beginning to discover just how wrong they are.

Hi guys just to update you on this,

I've finally today got it sorted.

Luckily, my dad worked in the house a service & repair manager and all I needed to do was give him a ring and they sorted it in less than a week under warranty.

Funny isn't it?

Anyway, thanks for all your replies - fiat were useless as per usual so i've got the car for another year or so ( or until something else breaks) then its being traded in for a 1 series BMW!
