goddammit!
stopped behind this guy in an escort van as i thought he was waiting for traffic coming the other way. turns out he was talking to these 2 people at the side of the road and just decided to reverse back to park and chat to them. i should have used the horn but instead just sort of paniced and tried reversing back out of his way but he was too quick. knocked a clucking great hole in my front bumper. missed the fog light and the washer bottle. bent the end of the inner metal bumper. and smashed the o/s indicator. bloody typical this time of year and only days from moving house. been quoted 300 quid which aint too bad but using non genuine parts. dunno whether to -
a. just pay for repairs and claim back through his insurance.
b. get it fixed through insurance which would initially cost me my excess (although the AA have said they sometimes use a company that does away with all that stuff)
c. beat the cash out of the guy and fix it myself as ive priced all the bits up on ebay and itll cost less than 150 quid

this in my mondeo by the way - and no im not going to jsut scrap it cos its a ford :p

any advice?

thing is its a 96 sh*tbox mondeo and im afraid of them writing it off if i take it to a ford bodyshop.:(

they cant write it off, the insurance company have to fix the car to the sort of standard that the car was in before the accident, and the only way they can do that is if its fixed with genuine ford parts at a ford garage.

His insurance will say you drove into the back of him, they always do (even if he admits it)...

They'll probably get away with it as well, and your insurance might end up paying for repairs to his car as well.

knowing my luck probably!
anyway he will be giving me his insurance details tonight (i know where he lives, my daughter delivers his sunday paper :D ) so ill just phone it through to my insurance and let em fix it. itll have to wait to be fixed until after the move tho. :( :(

actually LanciaMad is right, so try getting the money off the guy, also you will have to get the police involved (all accidents have to be recorded), and try to get a signed statement off the guy, so if he confesses (and you have it in writing) to reversing into you, you have a stronger case for claiming on his insurance.

oooh my neck!!
how long after can you decide you are hurt? see some of these t*its on the claim direct adverts i just want to throttle them. slipped on a wet floor? well be careful then. fell off a broken chair? should have checked it first. hate those adverts.
anyway just checked myself and bozzy is right, only need to inform police if anyone is hurt.

just had a phone call from his missus. she said theyd pay for damage to be fixed without using insurance. so im off for a quote at the bodyshop they have used in the past and i should have it fixed by saturday. (y)
suits me even if they dont use genuine parts. might get them to fix the rear bumper while they are at it - my missus reversed into someone a couple of years ago.

well i got my mondeo back with a nice shiney new bumper. the guy that ran into me foot the bill (about £250) just in time for the house move too! tomorrow! maybe i should start packing? :D

if you claim of his insurance you should get a cash settlement, they shouldn't write it off.

EDIT: whoops... I'm a dumb-ass.. thpought this was a new thread
