General I asked my dealer about the HG problem on the 1.3s

Was your sisters car a recall rather than a failure then. I assume so otherwise clearly theres has been a failure in the UK as well as one in Italy.

Yes it was a recall. The story broke about a week after she picked it up. The recall was done around 6 weeks later. There was nothing wrong with it when it went in.

we had 3of our own so far and one from another dealer and again only the 2 most experience techs are doing them my dad and another good tech who are both very professional in everything they do

i like the bit in the detailed instructions from fiat were it says take all turbo and stuff off to slide the head across and off the timing chain cover

i assume all techs have realised it's much easier to remove the studs out the turbo as they have only done a few miles it makes the job so much quicker

but as you have said there's nothing to worry about there isn't all that much really on a head to remove inlet exhaust water electrics injectors and rail few fuel pipes and timing chain to sort out that's it really

non of ours have failed before or after

fiat have on the online computer system a data base of cars effected so they should be picked up by dealers before being sold this list has been up for quite a wile now so any being sold that need the recall are solely the dealers fault for not checking

mine was recalled after several weeks and had work done. I am not worried now as car is under warranty.

ARgH! Phoned my dealer today to ask if the 7 day free Fiat insurance came through all right. Although everything seems to be fine he never the less said that he had just been to the 'valet' (read workshop) department
and seen that my car still has a few spots to be 'cleaned' (read, guts strewn across floor and HG upside down!)

Why can't they just tell me the truth? Even if I refuse the car they still get £500. How difficult is it to be honest? How easy it is to fib!

Do they think I'm really that stupid?...after all I was the one who earned the £12000 to buy the thing in the 1st place... the least they could do is give me a truthful report on how the HG is going!

I have just discovered that mine was done before I pciked it up. Don't know who did it as my car was PDI'd by Walon for Fiat at the port of arrival. Presume Walon did it.

Just got the recall letter on mine this monday. Taking it to the local Fiat garage (where Andy Armitage got his 500 from). Booked it in for thursday. Slightly worried as woman on service desk hasnt heard of this recall

Porlus they have only been up and running with fiats for a short time, I think the one we got was maybe only their second delivered so they probably won't be aware of the recall problem, they are nice people if you see the Gm Glenn boyes mention me to him :]
Andy

Yeah thats what I was guessing Andy. Just praying I get a Fiat as courtesy car and not a Kia :D
Will mention you to the GM then (y)

It's HERE!:D(y):slayer:

It's working perfectly.

AND

I was unnecessarily worried about the HG as it had been done at the factory! The dealer tracked the chassis number on the computer and it came back saying all sorted at factory!!!:slayer: This was my single biggest worry and now it's gone!:D

I will post reviews and pics etc later. Just to let you good people know it's all good! No probs. If you suspect an HG problem ask your dealer to track the chassis number!

Loving the diesel, have just hit 56.7 mpg and it's constantly rising. Will do a Glasgow run on Saturday and try make it to 70+mpg.

It pulls away very fast, though I've been real gentle with it.

Anyway back to driving....will post soon:wave:

Or so the dealer says ;)

Well, yes BUT, it arrived at dealer Friday evening, and I picked the car up Monday evening at 19:00.

Is that really time enough to change an HG? Considering Sundays are off, I don't think so.

I don't like your tone 306Maxi, you're a drag...I have been looking at your posts and you're subtly stirring things up in a 'nicey nicey' insidious way.

I will thank you to leave or contribute something useful.

Try not to behave like a :tosser:

well actually it is time enough to change the gasket but unlikely and you would see residue of coolant and maybe some oil smuts on the head and block if so also you'd see recent tool marks on fasteners

and yes 306maxi stop it

if that 306 stands for peugeot 306 then you have no grounds to slag fiat of on any mark

Right chill time.
Everyone has the right to express their views and opinions on this forum even if they are very pessimistic about the product or service received by the suppliers.

We don't all have to agree, but flaming is against the rules. So lets not let it get to that stage please guys. (y)

Yes the 306 Maxi was best Formula 2 rally car ever made. Problem?

Why don't you go and shove my first car (see below) where the sun don't shine and stop accusing me or things I'm not guilty of. Did I slag off the Fiat marque? Nope.

See? It's a Fiat. It was a damn good car and if not for a little fender bender would probably still be around. But since then I've apparently become a Peugeot infiltrator and I've come here to secretly get people to buy horribly ugly and badly buily French cars  There isn't a single Peugeot in the current range that I would want to buy. Hence I'm on a FIAT forum because I quite like the 500, Panda 100hp and the Bravo and would like to find out a bit about them before possibly buying one in the next year or two. Sorry if I'm not horribly sycophantic towards Fiat and their dealers. It's simply not in my nature to do that I like Fiat's but I'm not unconditionally in love with the brand as some around here seem to be. That's their thing and they're entitled to it. I have my opinion and I'm entitled to it.

The only reason I said "Or so the dealer says" is because the dealer wants to make everyone happy (or at least some do) and Baerius has obviously been on their chops about the issues he/she has heard about and quite rightly doesn't want to experience the same issues. Now it could be that they're completely right or it could be that they're just trying to make the customer happy and hoping that there won't be an issue with this car. I hope it's the latter.

If you want to think I'm a Peugeot plant or something then go on and bloody believe that. It's your problem.

P.S Not wanting to start a flame war or anything but it's getting annoying how hostile people are to anyone who doesn't tow the party line and I just feel the need to defend myself :)

Unfortunally however good forums are they can also have a negative effect with a few (and no i'm not mentioning any names!) who continually post across the forum in all sections about a problem they have (you can never keep everyone happy afterall) casting doubt in the minds of some who are seeking advice or reassurance.

306maxi I have to say I also find you tedious and I have only just bought Lindas first Fiat, so we aren't defending the marque it's new to us, you like to express your opinion which is fine, my opinion is that you are tiresome and you are the only person i have come across on here that makes me feel that way. It's not the fact that people on here love Fiats it's just that i find them to be a very helpful and friendly bunch, and you certainly buck that trend :bang:
