last time i posted with this prob all i got was sarcasm but i was wondering if this is a prob or not, although the last remarks were funny and made me laugh im still a bit concerned that i may have a fault.when i am travelling at about 40-60mph i get a slight humming/buzzing sound coming from some where that im not sure about ,to the left of me if you know what i mean.i dont think its from the engine and it only happens when i accelerate ,take my foot off the pedal and it stops, the unusual thing about this is that it dosent happen untill im doing about 40mph ish apart from this only get low fuel sensor faults and a creaking from my dash,i love my car but i am worried i may have a duff one, anybody got any views they would be much appreciated

Well just to put your mind at rest, it seems all Stilo's are duffers! Thats not to say it can't be made good though! :I

Could the buzzing just be the sound of the engine labouring a little when your accelerating in too high a gear! I get that sometimes in my 1.2 when i accelerate from 40 or so in 6th gear. The car picks up speed, but it does labour a tiny bit!

Can't comment on Stilo as mine isn't delivered yet, but if its any help, had similar experience on citroen ZX years ago.
Sound was like low groan only on acceleration, did not happen with car parked and engine revved.
Traced this to split cv boot and absense of grease on joint, so as soon as any additional load was put on it would groan then stop once speed was reached. Boot replaced and joint greased, problem solved
Failing this you could check there's no heat shield or anything vibrating on floorpan.

could be the exhaust resonating. but to be honest it could be just about anything. best get a passenger to have a poke about when its doing it. i hate strange noises like that. the more you listen the worse it gets.:(

I get a noticeable hum from my car at certain speeds and on most road surfaces, but I've put it down to the tyres.

I hate noises and rattles in my car and have got rid of nearly all now, but they can be hard to trace as sound travels. I had an annoying rattle that appeared to come from the upper seat belt mounting next to my right ear. Eventually I found by moving the door lock plate mounted on the central pillar in slightly the noise went, which means the door must have been moving slightly. Another vibrating noise coming from the dash to my right turned out to be a small plastic tool used to remove fuses located in the comparment to the right which vibrated under acceleration, wrapping a bit of tape round the tool stopped the noise.

I would sugest as dog says, getting someone (not your wife if she's like mine) to sit in the car and try and pin point the location, then try pressing different bits of plastic to see if they stop it. I would think if the noise is consistent and always been there it is more likely to be some component resonating at rather than a component breking down.

I had a buzzing sound coming from under the dash board on my car. It did it at about 2500 revs, so if I did 70mph. it did it all the time and was really annoying. It turned out to be one of the air conditioning pipes touching the bulk head and at a certain engine speed it vibrated. It'll probably be related to engine speed, rather than road speed.
