Can i ask how much £££ the first (12k) service should be costing? mine now only 600miles away from needing it.

Ive only needed to top up 250ml of oil since new over the miles also.

Also any thing i should prepare myself of when talking to a fiat dealer.... its been a few years since my gt turbo

Am i the only 100ho owner to reach 12,000miles?

Anyway i have had a quote from a fiat dealer of £135.00 and use of their grande punto for the day.

This is inclusive price but im going to get it lower by providing my own oil (such a profit item in a stealer).

The dealer told me that my first service is due at 10k or 12 months time (end of Dec 2008) what ever came first and would probably cost around £110+VAT.

There is a thread somewhere on here with what milage people have reached in their 100hp, think somebody is on 25k.

Mine is on 4k now.

:D i,m on 8000 miles and 1st service due soon. my eleganza was £155 for 1st service, so i,m expecting about the same for the 100 hp. bloody rip off if you ask me.... (n)

I'm just following what the dash read out in the menu is telling me. Also it gives you a warning when you startup when getting close to the service. But you have the look quickly as it goes back to the normal display in like under 1 sec!

I have a late 2007 car, so maybe it was increased to 12,000miles service interval?

I'm guessing the bulk of the high price is for the Selenia oil they specify. I wonder if there's significant savings to be made by supplying your own correct spec non-Selenia oil?

Chris, exactly what i am going todo.

I used to use Agip oil in my punto gt with no problem and a vast reduction in the service bill.

Is the Selenia oil that special? I just think its not, but i could be wrong.

Short answer: No. Each major European Car maker has a 'sponsorship deal' with an oil maker: Fiat=Selenia, Citroen=Total, Renault=Elf, etc and each 'recommends' that company's product.

If Fiat said you could only use tap water from Turin in the screenwash bottle, would you? In fact, they recommend Tutela screenwash... but I doubt anyone here actually uses that. So, why is it different for the oil?

The answer is you can use any oil that meets the required specification. The Panda handbook simply states 'an oil that passes ACEA A3 and API SL specifications', and with a specified viscosity (10w40). It also says 'synthetic based', which all modern oils are.

They 'recommend' Selenia, but you can safely use other brands quite happily (and for less money too). And, yes, like mixing petrols, so long as the basic spec is met, you can safely mix the oil brands too.

It would be interesting if people were able to post a breakdown of how the cost was arrived at to see if there are any savings to be made :D

Break down of my service costs

Labour - £70.54
Washer Liquid - £2.09
Additive - £3.08
Oil Filter - 7.91
Shell Helix 10w40 - £10.00

Net - £93.62
V.A.T - £16.38
Total - £110.00

No air filter change as the car never had enough miles on it to make it nesserary to change it and next time they can stick their washer liquid lol

it costs about 270 euro for a first service on a 100hp panda where i work and dont worry bout the engine using a bit of all new engines do that its the oil finding its way around the oil gallies etc its nothin to worry about(y)

Thanks for posting those breakdowns. So it looks like the Selenia oil is 3 times the price of other oil which boosts the cost a fair bit. Interesting that the air filter was changed too on one service - all my previous cars have been recommended to have them changed every 4th service which I've always thought was too long!

Chris

That's interesting, Chris - is the A/C serviced at the same time then?
