Technical How can you tell?

How can you tell if the water has oil inside? My water is black but to be honest i have never flushed it. I tested by touch if it is oily but it looks just as normal water (ecxept the colour ofcourse) I opened the rocker cover few days ago and i didn't see any mayo at all either.
Also if you have oil in the water does that mean you have water in your oil aswell?

Well if you never flushed your coolant go and do it..!! the water really shouldn't be black. Infact i'd recommend if its really black that you empty, and fill it up with just water and run it to pump it all round and empty to get rid of as much debris as poss and then fill up with the correct mix of water coolant back in usually 50/50 but check the coolant you get first, you will shortly afterward be able to tell if theres oil in the water as it won't be all black.
