Mk.1 1.2 , is it normal for the coolant level to rise from just over min to just under max cold to hot ?
Also I'm curious about how the Mk. 1 cooling system works. Topping up to max level when cold doesn't leave much room for coolant expansion, only a bit of air at the top of the tank. As there is no overflow expansion tank why doesn't the system explode ! ( every other car I've owned has had a pressure rad cap with unpressurised expansion / overflow tank.
And now for a great theory ! if many hours after a run there is still pressure in the system does that mean the head gasket is ok. ?
