Horrible noise :S

Hi, I have a 09 fiat grande punto and have an issue with a. Noise when starting. If I start the engine it squels for about 1 second then it is fine, it's like the start motor is still trying to start it almost after it is running. There is not cluncking noises. I have spoken to a few people who are saying to put wd40 on the belts etc, one person has said water pump. Got me very confused! Can anyone advise on what this could be? It is driving me bananas!!

it COULD be the starter motor ,
it COULD be the belt (s)

but if it ONLY does it for a second , when turning over on the key-then the starter and mating teeth on the flywheel are the prime suspects..,

it's often a sign of a weak battery / charging system,
as the starter basically "springs to life" , and IF it's not getting full lectrical power it can only "half-engage" with the starter ring on the engine - hence the grinding noise..,
