its looking like Estella (my car) may be going to live in Egypt for a bit.

Now I currently use Castrol Edge 0W-30 as per Argo's recommendation and its fantastic. It has really civilized the engine up, both idleing and on the go.

Now the problem is Egypt is a wee bit hotter than the UK.......... well a lot hotter! I had 42c reading on the Mitsu Lancer a few days ago and thats in April  it easily knocks on 60's door in the summer.

What the norm here is 20W-50 for petrols, and its pretty much a Mobil 1 monopoly. There are bugger all diesels in Egypt so I don't know what the heck they use but I'd assume its the same.

sooooooo, what oil do you peeps think I should use?

on a side note, the 500 is more expensive than both the GP and the Bravo over here

GP: Base (Active AC) 1.4 5 door manual 90,000 LE
GP: top spec 1.4 3 door T-Jet 140,000 LE

Linea: Base (Active AC) 1.4 manual 95,000 LE
Linea: Dynamic High Line 1.4 manual 110,000 LE

Bravo: Active AC 1.4 manual 125,000 LE
Bravo: Dynamic High Line 1.4 manual 160,000 LE
Bravo: Dynamic High Line 1.4 T-Jet 185,000 LE

500: Base Active AC 1.4 manual 149,000 LE
500: Top spec with sunroof (its still a 1.4, no mention of turbo) manual 185,000 LE

current exchange rate is 7.9

sheeeeeeeeeeesh! and everyone though the UK's cars were expensive!

not as bad as a Mini Cooper s cabrio which is 410,000 LE or a Mazda 6 2.0 which is 335,000 LE!

CRAZY!

anyways, back to the oil!

Hi Oz,

You should be safe as you are but it's massive overkill to use an oil that gives best protection at sub zero temperatures (mind you - it does get cold in the desert at night doesn't it ;))

Whatever you do make sure you keep to a fully synthetic, as you have now, as the engine (especially oil seals) might not be happy if you suddenly change to a cheaper semi or non-synthetic oil (y)

Where do you guys buy your Castrol edge?
I'm due for a service and have used the Fiat recommended Selenia up till now.
Nationwide have been doing a special on this for years (as an oil upgrade during service) but ever since I kept catching them out on the service indicator (which they still can't reset) the service manager now always says to me "....before you ask - I'm not resetting the service indicator on your Stilo! lol :D

I now get Castrol Edge from eBay and simply hand it to my local Fiat specialist (y)
