Hi All,

Just something quick.

Looking to download high quality music (things like chase and status/dot rotten) however, currently the only option on amazon is mp3 format, something like 320kbps.

Iv been looking round and there are sites that offer near full quality (CD) but do not feature chart music etc...probably due to licensing.

Can anyone suggest anywhere else?

Thanks in advance!

Well yes, but that's how MP3's, etc are so small as they compress the data. If you want it to be completely lossless then .wav (at about 80mb per track) is your only true option as it's a 100% identical copy of what is on the disc.

thats the problem mate, some artists are ONLY offering single songs via mp3 download :( it's obviously a cheaper way for them to sell stuff rather than print cds etc.

iv looked round for dot rotten - overload, and it seems there is no option but mp3. Even from his site.

for things like chase and status etc, cds are an option, but then some stuff is just mp3.

You could convert in iTunes to loss-less from already downloaded tracks, its not as good as downloading a track that is originally loss-less but it drops the compression. I used to import all my iTunes music as apple loss-less but soon found my 2000 song iPod could now only store 500 - 600 of my songs...

That's a crazy idea Didge, it's not going to make it sound any better and will just take up more space. Converting the file type can't fill in missing data.

okay looks like ill stick with mp3 quality. Some of these songs are not even from albums so buying a full album isnt an option either.

Slightly off topic then, can anyone recommened some stuff similar to chase and status - no more idols. Looked at pendulum but not keen.

Ahaa, but if you can make yourself believe it works then it doesn't matter anyway.
With consumer audio anyway I can't tell the difference between a 320kbps song and a 20,000kbps song anyway. iPods DAC's aren't that good to be able to tell the difference and my stereo although way better sound than an iPod still not noticeable.

If your playing stuff off your IPod, even with studio quality headphones (I mean £2000 Bose OEs, not BEATS by Dr Dre.) Your not gonna hear alot of difference between 320kbps and 480kbps. You might if you have a serious quality audio system in your house/car though. But 320kbps is fine for me :p

And music wise...

Netsky
Sub Focus
Feed Me
RWD 2011/12 (compilation album of pretty bassy tunes and by the sounds of things, the sort of music your into; Wiley, Dot Rotten, Devlin, Dizzee Rascle ect ect...)

i tend to swap between Itunes, Amazon and other "completely legitimate and legal" ways :p

I find Itunes sometimes trump Amazon on EPs. For example, Knife Partys latest EP was £4.49 on Amazon, but only £2.99 on Itunes :)

Uuurm guess who forgot those CD's

I tend to stick with CD's but 320 isnt the end of the world. The biggest reason we dont like to use MP3 is because only CD, FLAC or WAV is sent via optical to our processors. I can hear the difference between 256 and 320 but it is very difficult to hear the difference between 320 and CD.

Anyway its not in pop music where you will find that illusive quality. You have to go a little deeper than that.

I will be sending you some Individual songs.

There are places out there that offer wav downloads for new music. One being junodownload (mostly dance music) who offer mp3s and a wav option for a premium price.

For the vast majority, the difference between 320kb and wav will be unnoticeable. The quality of your speakers and amp will let you down more than the bit rate.

Thanks Stu.

I know exactly what you mean with the genre, pop songs I have on just sound like voice and a standard bass beat, whereas DnB is properly bassy and voices sound great.

You still sending that cd then? no worries about it, I know you were busy mate.
