i only bought my car a week ago and its had two previous owners. it also had a full mot done.

during the week ive noticed that my breaks are a little squeaky, and now driving home from work tonight something is making a high pitched squealing noise thats only just started. could this be due to brakes or fanbelt?

any suggestions on wot i should do?

im not sure if the two are connected or not.

it was happening while i was driving along. didnt seem to be there when i stopped but it returned when i went into first gear to pull away and continued until i stopped. in neutral and handbrake on, everything seems to be quiet.

yes be more than a few quid if it is that normally you change the whole cluch at same time as gearbox has to come off, but dont want to scare tou you can do thousands of miles with a squeeky one, make sure it is that try see if you can tell what side its comming from clutch bearing is in left side of engine (uk pasenger) cambelt tenshioner is right hand side (uk drivers)

its under warranty still for £500 so hopefully that would cover it if it was that. its only done 41,000 miles and ive only done 250 in it so far. i didnt notice it happenin when the clutch was pressed or depressed but maybe i will notice it now. otherwise i still dont no.

i dont no alot about cars but generally arent these things looked at during MOT or servicing?

ive taken the car out for a test drive. the high pitch continuous squealing noise has strangely disappeared. didnt seem at all squeaky when clutch pressed or released. still the brakes are still squeaking abit.

does that still suggest clutch or brakes then?
