I have Punto Active 1.2, I have had the following happen about 3 or 4 times: basically every now and then when i steer left their is a high pitch whistling noise, it happens randomly and will continue to make the noise until i slow down/change gear etc.

Usually it is when i am in 4th gear and it only happens when i turn left.

Can anyone advise ?

Cheers

No ive not had any work done on the brake pads.

A friend has suggested its my power steering ? Could that be right ?

I have this too on my 1.2 8v mk2. It sounds like its coming from the front right corner, basically where the wheel is, but it's not the disc pads, as I've changed mine and it still does it. It only happens occassionaly, and usually when going 40mph+. Sometimes its pretty loud and really annoying, other times its not that bad. First off it never happened at all, then it happened every time i drove it for a few months non stop, then it disappeared completely for a few months, but then I heard it just the other day a little bit, but nothing since then...

Everyone I've asked and demonstrated it to has no idea!

It sounds kind of like a squeaky bolt being quickly spun off a screw.
It's not air getting into the car or anything, it's not that sort of noise.

Please let me know if you find the problem!

My mark 2 punto 01 plate is doing the very same thing. When I press the brake pad, the whistling stops and then starts again.

The noise only starts after driving for over 15 minutes?

Anyone got any ideas?

I get this as well! Only just noticed it, sounds worse when its sunny and warm! Mine is a W reg 1.2 8v ELX. Would love to know what the probelm is!

I have noticed this problem as well, except it happened once whilst stationary as well as when turning corners. When that I happened I removed the key, and the noise continued. As far as I am aware the only moving part without the key is the cooling fan. Prehaps the problem is with that? This is with an MK1 Punto 55SX 97 'P'.

I know its a different car but I have a Fiat Seicento 1.0 and when changing to fifth gear I get a high pitched whistling noise coming from under the bonnet.
It gets louder the faster I go. When changing down to 4th gear the whistling stops.....

Please help me :bang:
