I would look in the middle of the dash in the facelifted version........................ Seriously, are the other instruments working? Have you checked the connections at the back of the clocks?

yeah all the other bits are working speedo works one minute then stops or jumps about i was told it maybe a sender unit??? pass!

Advice, if you consider putting a second hand set of clocks in your car be wary. The clocks carry the mileage in a memory chip inside the cloacks although they don't display the mileage. If you get a second hand set of clocks that have higher mileage than your car then that will become the mileage of your car and it will cost about £120 to fix and Fiat Dealers can't do it, its specialist Digital Milage correction services only.

I believe both speed and rev counter information is sent to the dashboard unit on a common BUS from the NBC (body computer node). If the Rev display is OK, then your problem is very likely to be somewhere within the dashboard display unit. Perhaps, a dry solder joint, or cracked PCB track, in the region of your speedometer display could be the problem?

Slight thread hijack, but same topic...

Speedo and rev counter don't work. Fuel/temp gauges do work, as do warning lights.

I've checked connections at:
sender unit
back of instruments

I've had the panel apart and can't see any obvious damage (e.g. burnt bits of solder, broken connector pins etc).

Does this mean the problem is likely to be the sender unit or the instruments? I hope it's the sender as they're only £20!

get it hooked up to a diagnostic's machine designed for peugeot / citron it will read the car and tell you what item has failed

Hi there,
my car having the same poblem as well.
could you share what was a solution or fault found on that please?
thanks.

I tried replacing the sender unit, but got no joy from this.

The eventual solution came in the form of Cartronix in Hampshire. The forum won't let me put their url but a simple Google search will find them.

They fixed my speedo with new stepper motors for £100 including both ways special delivery postage. 2 year guarantee on their work. They turned it round in 2 days but can do while you wait if you can take it in person.

Happy so far...

The stepper motors are available to buy for anyone wanting them (about 22 quid each)

The spindle on the large main cog snaps off when the case plastic gets brittle with age, crappy design imo.
