HGT Vs 206 GTI

just read

that there is a Pug 206 - 180 bhp version coming
out soon - ouch thats going to be one fast car !

Re: just read

There's no competition in the looks department between the Bravo any car, maybe apart from the 147 !!!

Bravo HGT vs 206 GTI

Although I´m 2.00 mts tall, there´s no car as comfortable as Bravo. I mean in it´s class.
As someone said right here, "it´s an unfair fight"!

Come on don't give me that ****

I disagree about the bravo being better because i'm only 4'3" and I cant see up to the dials in the bravo. In the peugeot I can see the bonnet and sometimes the road. If I jack my seat up.

Preference

After reading thru this thread, 1 thing is blatantly clear........

It's all down 2 personal preference !!!

At the end of the day, who cares if the Pug is slower/faster than the HGT. How often do u get the chance 2 prove it and what purpose does proving it serve ??
R u in a race team, working 2wards points, prize money and job survival ??? I think not ;)

Whether it's cars, games consoles, computers etc.. u'll always get some people prefering 1 type 2 another, and at the end of the day it all adds up 2 a load of ****** ! ;) It makes no difference. Does ur life become better because u think ur car is better than some1 else's ? Do u have a bigger status if u choose 2 use a Mac instead of a PC ? Does ur X-Box make u smarter than some1 who has a PS2 ??
If u answered yes 2 the previous questions, I have 1 thing 2 say....

Life....... GET 1 !! ;)

If u feel more satisfied and have a better driving experience in a Pug, then get a Pug. If an HGT suits u better, drive an HGT, but where does petty squabling and number matching get u ? R u still playing "Top Trumps" ??

Look at it this way.....all the while ur arguing over which car is better, there's some1 round the corner driving something faster/better looking etc. The arguement will go on & on in a tedious, boring circle.
2 b honest, Nige's Jag would **** all over our cars in a race, but I don't care and neither would Nige. He has a Jag coz it's what he likes, not coz he's trying 2 "b the fastest, best, flashiest driver in town".

How about some more worthwhile conversations in this forum :)

And don't worry, I'm fully prepared 4 all ur backlash ;)

Hope 2 c u all at AutoItalia 2morrow ;)

Rob.

A year on

This thread started over a year ago and one thing that I have noticed - or not(!) is that the Pug 206 has become almost anonymous in the eurodrivel that is now abound whilst the Bravo still retains an air of aloofness.

My friend who had the black 206 now has Accord Type R but unfortunately the bast still looks like Mr Cruise!

To continue on this diversion, there has been a red 20V Coupe parked outside my house for the past 24 hours and whilst looking at it I realise how dated they looked now as well - not bad looking, just dated.

4´3" ??

U must b a Bonsai!
Y don´t U sit on the steering wheel to see the road.
y don´t U try to jack the Bravo seat up,too ??
I think the Bravo is much more comfortable than 206, ´cos I´ve driven a Pug.
Have U ever driven a Bravo??

Re: 4´3" ??

Charlie
Please can U not be so personal. I'm not a Bonsai.

crash one and see

Crash a Fiat at 30mph, then do the same in 206 and see which comes out worse.
The Fiat is a heavier car and will stand upto impacts better. I would rather have a car that can stand the damage better and loose slightly on the performance.
Fiat use slightly heavier gauge metal and are bolted together, the Peugot use thinner stuff and is mainly welded together.
Last night I got slaughtered buy a citeon zara in my Marea 20v, very embarasing indeed.

Re: crash one and see

I actually didn't think there was much difference between the HGT and 206GTi performance. The GTi is no better to 30 or 60 and the in gear acceleration doesn't seem any better either. I also don't think it handles particularly well - the 106GTi in that respect is awesome as was the 306GTi (if a little too much understeer) but most of us who used to race the 306 decided against swapping for the 206 cos it seemed crap in comparison. However, the Bravo on standard set-up isn't the best handling car either!

I now got myself a Clio172 and if anybody is thinking about doing the same then don't, unless you live somewhere without corners - in a straight line it has remarkable acceleration but even with the 'sports suspension set-up' it does not like bends....and the steering wheel is just too bloody big. All these moans about handling..perhaps I just need to slow down a bit :)

Honest

Thats a very refreshing opinion, and honest to boot. I too drove a 172 Clio, but only for 10 miles ish. Superb in a straight line but not a car for corners at all, hence only 10 miles. They also came bottom of the 100 drivers cars list for that...and they only tested what they thought might be good cars.

I blame it on the rear wipers. They feel let down and want to be front wipers. Surely if you take them off the car might stop trying to be FWD in reverse. Does look good though! Impovement over the exceedingly sad R5 GT Turbo which should NEVER be seen on the road again hopefully!

ATTN : Spyder

You got beat by a Xsara ? , was it that Xsara VTS - as i've heard they are pretty damn fast - fast (on paper at least) than HGT's etc.
Come on ,more info !

Re: ATTN : Spyder

I think the Bravo handles pretty well: only the Astra and Focus are better. The Focus handles brilliantly, but the Astra is more fun (it oversteers! Marvellous!).

I drove a golf recently, and was really disappointed. It's a rotten chassis, with a tendency to snap into sudden and vicious understeer at the limit: deeply unpleasant. As for the 206, it's a smaller car, but it doesn't feel very crisp to drive. It's good, but not really that much fun to drive.

Only the Astra is more fun than the Bravo, as far as I'm concerned, but I hate the styling and interior. I've not driven a Xsara, because I don't fit in them (no headroom at all).

The 306 GTi was an absolute monster, but I can't afford the insurance...

Did any one who was at Donnington on Sunday see the modified 206 which went passed us on the Gravel a couple of times??

This was proof for me that the Bravo looks wise is far superior.

As far as performance etc go's I couldn't say as I've not yet driven one.

I would also have to agree with the statement above about it been a poor quality copy of the Bravo.

206?

I have a mach2 bravo hgt 155hp 5 cylinders 0-100km=8sec
you have peugeot 137hp 4 cylinders 0-100km=8.6

Xsara vs Marea 20v

It was the old style ones a bit boxy, ran on 15 mine are 17's but looked like it had had some work done on it.
He got the off on me at the lights as I thought no problem I'll kill him(bit bigheaded), as I got into second I got wheelspin but was catching, then there was a turn off and I was in the wrong lane.
I would have probably passed him if it had been a longer stretch of road, but what the hell you live and learn.
As regards handling I found the original setup quite good, I've only got lowered front springs and uprated shocks on the front as I need rear clearance for load carrying.
The cars undergoing more mods at the mo' and still trying to find someone who can tune the engine, might even junk the AC as it zaps too much power.
AND I HATE the 206 looks crap made by the french would love another Lancia tho'

Yes, Xsara.

That´s really a fast car.
It goes faster than a 2.0 Clio Sport.
I like the previous models.
But I like very much mu HGT!

Me thinks not mate

I know I moan about my Clio but there's no way a Xsara VTS is faster than it - not to 30, not to 60, not in 3rd,4th,5th gear acceleration....are you a Citroen salesman or something?? The VTS is very similar to the 155HGT in terms of performance even though it has a 12bhp advantage...so even with the extra weight the Marea would not have been far behind - I reckon Spyder probably scared the Citroen driver shitless when he realised he couldn't fully skin an 'estate'.

On the subject of racing if any of you happen to be around Cardiff and come across a black Lada Riva with 16 inch alloys and spoilers, don't race it: it belongs to some Slovakian geezer who has apparently put a tuned 3.9 Rover V8 under the bonnet.....I couldn't quite understand him, whatever he has done it is VERY fast and can keep up with my Clio easily. Made me look a little stupid but serves me right for trying to show off really!!
