Having owned a fast and reliable Punto GT I moved to a Bravo HGT which was also very reliable and a lot more civilised. After owning Fiats for 4 years I decided a change was in order, so tried a 206 GTI. WOW, what a car this turned out to be, fast (goes off the clock) and handles like its on rails. I really Enjoyed my time with my Fiats but the Peugeot is something else especially after driving a new Punto HGT which I found very disapointing.

Totally agree

A friend has a 2.0 206 and it embarrases my HGT! It also looks a darn site better as well, the only saving grace is that he can't get his windsurf kit in it where as I can in the Bravo, but as he says my car stinks inside because I leave wet kit it in there so he wins on all fronts!

A 206 GTI better looking than a Bravo? not bloody likely. It may go better, but no way does it look better.

Are you sure ?

How long do you owned the Punto GT and the Bravo HGT. I don't think you used those cars within 4 years and go for 206GTI. My opinion is that, I think you never own a Fiats before but want to promote a 206GTI, including other people agreeing with you.

206GTI is a small car compare to a Bravo HGT. If you said that a 306 GTI-6 is better than a Bravo HGT than it is a different story. If you look carefully the 206 design especially the four doors, it looks funny, to high up and doesn't look well balanced.

Hmmmm, looks are equal I think.

A 206 GTi is a nice looking car. A bog standard non colour coded 206 is dull.
Same with the Bravo, the HGT's and HLX's are good looking cars but the normal non colour coded Bravos are dull.

bravo v 206

My mate has a 206 & he recons it's crap, and it looks crap compared to my HLX (306 is good though)

This is a Bravo forum

C'mon, there ain't no 206 better looking then the HGT!

Punto HGT

I have owned a Punto HGT since March (previously I had a Bravo HLX & Cinq Sporting). I live in Coventry where the 206 range is made. Every other car here is a 206 because the workers get good discounts off them. I watch out for the 206 GTI's because they are on a par with the Punto HGT and the drivers always have something to prove (I hate that mentality), but it is very difficult to tell them apart from the bog standard version. Whereas my sprint blue HGT stands out a mile and looks the biz. The engine is superb and I can't fault the handling. Once you understand where the valve timing changes and what the torque curve is so you can drive with it, it's brilliant.

I don't think the 206 GTi is better than Bravo HGT

I'm an owner of a HGT and being able to drive a 206 GTi once, I can say it's not better.

It's much smaller inside.
The driving position is not that good.
It weights less but has less power (17 hp less)
It costs more.
And it's very similar to a 206 XS or XR, only because of the 15' wheels and a little chrome exhaust...

What I do like about the 206 GTi is the equipment:
4 airbags, aluminum pedals, the air conditioning, the sport seats and the gear shift.

But I still prefer my Bravo, that's why I chose it instead of the Peugeot.

better looking than Bavo

Paul,do yourself a favour and visit a site called Darren's 206 GTI website and you will see a car identical to mine apart from the wheels (mine are 16" his are 15").I think you will agree that with the SP body kit it looks fantatic(£450 painted at any Peugeot garage).I look forward to hear what you think.

OH YES I DID !!!

I owned my yellow Punto GT for 2 years and my reflex green Bravo HGT for 2 years.Dont get me wrong the cars where enjoyable but the 206 is at another level. My friend is a sales manager for Fiat and he agrees and as i have driven these cars back to back I know.I suggest you take a test drive of a 206 GTI and then get back to me.

Like Minded!!

Nigel, nice to hear someone agrees with me.Check out a site called Darren's 206 GTI Website and you will see the exact same car as mine (but mine has 16" wheels his are 15")with a full SP kit (£450 painted+fitted at all Peugeot garages)and tell me what you and your mate think.

I THINK THE BRAVO IS A BEAUTY-FAR BETTER LOOKING CAR. NOT LIKE THE 206 WHICH REALLY IS A BIRDS CAR

I've done myself a favour thankyou very much....

and there is NO WAY on this planet, or at least in my mind that a 206 looks better than a Bravo. I hate the look of them. And no body kit, alloy wheels or anything else on earth could make me like them.

Paul

....

and having known people in my family that own Peugeots - they will never buy another one.

And I used to work for a Pug dealer, and after that experience, there is no way I'd buy one to this date.

Reminder, this is FIAT Forum

Geoff,

As you know, this is a FIAT site, please do not promote other cars especially non italian. Because majority not interested. They just want to talk about FIATs and how to improve their cars.

We don't care if you car is better than Bravo or Punto. We just love italian cars.

what's a Bavo?

i must admit when i first saw the thread about a 206 i thought that the one guy was too into his water sport cos my opinion of them is that they look like a jetski on wheels - they do!

but i looked at darrens gti shite, i mean site, and altho yes it does look quite nice, there's no pictures of that ugly, ugly bonnet.

i also like the emergency lights button right in the middle of the dash - the bright pink thing, is that because it's used a lot?

and any way, it doesn't have the ferrari style rear lamps, so how can it even start to be better?

Change of opinion!

I originally said that the 206 GTI was the dogs, but I was slightly mistaken! The 206 GTI in BLACK looks the business and definently better than my HGT, however in any other colour it looks crap!

My friend who owns the 206 grabs more attention from "the ladies" in his car than I do in mine, but then he is 10 years younger, 4 stone lighter and looks like a young Tom Cruise where as I look like a bulldog sucking p155 of a lemon... but it just has to be the car making the difference!!!!!

Bravo HGT vs. 206 GTI

I have a '98 HGT and I have raced against a few 206 GTI's (3) that live nearby and none of them can follow my HGT in a 0-100 mph acceleration. From 0-30 mph we're side by side but above 30 he can't hang on...
But rather close anyways at 90 mph I'm about 10 yards ahead of him...
But i fact the 206 GTI should be faster...
206 GTI: 1050 kgs and 138 hp: 7,6 kgs/hp
Bravo HGT: 1190 kgs and 147 hp: 8,0 kgs/hp

So the 206 GTI has a better kgs to hp ratio, so it should be faster, but isn't :)

Lol - this is a good one... :)

206 Vs. Bravo HGT...
not really a fair fight is it...?

Right, Performance... Pug has a 2.0 16v engine, Bravo has a 2.0 20v engine... so pug may be quicker off the mark due to weight etc. but won't have the mid pull of the HGT.. also it won't drive like a Fiat engine... where's the redline ;)

Size... comparing the two is wrong... 206 is a similar size to the Punto not the Bravo... and yes maybe the Punto HGT is a bit (note I say maybe) slower than the Pug but it's a 1.8 not a 2.0

Looks... Does this really need to be said... c'mon Bravo - Sleek Italian looks Screaming of originality and taste..... Erm... Pug 206 Overgrown Techno Rollerskate designed with Hairdressers in mind (like the Tigra and that wierd looking ford thing based on the Fiesta - eeuuuuggghh). One of the first thing that struck me about the 206 is how much of a blatant rip-off the rear lights are of the Bravo ones (but done badly).

When it comes down to it I like Fiats for the engines and looks first off... The engines are made for Italian drivers and suited to how I drive. And the looks are always original and then copied by everyone else.... I know a few people who work for TVR and openly admit that the rear lights on one of them were copied from the bravo. So is the 206, the new Mondeo ... the old punto lights are now on the Corsa... as it says on the Motor Show web site...

Fiat...ten European Car of the Year awards -six more than any other manufacturer - confirm its supremacy in the field of automobile design and manufacture.

Barakka

This is all my opinion, but if you wanna compare with reasoned argument, fair enough, to a point. Otherwise post it on www.girlsandhairdressersonly.com/forum where it belongs - LOL :)
