General hgt performance

General hgt performance

Id say a good gain from an exhaust and BMC is possible. Maybe not 20bhp but still a big gain. I had an HGT before my Ibiza Cupra. It had a BMC filter and the exact same Abarth Cup exhaust that Andy has - i sold it to him. Although I didnt have the car rolling roaded, I managed to do a 15.4 second quarter mile @ santa pod with just the BMC and exhaust. There are a handful of HGT's about that are noticeably up on power than the quoted 130bhp factory figure. I feel that mine was definitely one so Andy's could be a similar case. He did not have a rolling road done before the mods so who's to say the car wasn't running 140+bhp as standard?

i agree with alex.

i never said they were gospel i'm just saying thats all the mods i have and i put in resonable times and good performances against other cars nothing wrong with saying that is there??

i reckon i coulc have got my 1/4mile closer to steve's given a bit better weather lol i doubt 36 degrees in august is the best time to test it lol.

don't lose faith in ya cars just drive them well and you can run with much bigger cars

i've stayed with bigger power cars up to silly speeds no reason other than mods fitted surely?

id get it tested agian mate thier is no way you can get 20 bhp from a zorst and filter on a standard 1.8 that gain is far to big it may be so like but id still get it done agian

me an me bird have got a 172 cup an we got a viper induction kit full zorst system with de-cat pipe an then had it super chipped an that is only running 194 bhp an thats a 2.0

what should the average non modded hgt do 0-60 in? everywhere says 8 seconds although fiats do it in 8.6 with 2 elephants and a tank of petrol in. some times my car seems really quick, other times not so. ill agree with most people tho when they say you have to drive them hard

a stock car tested with a passenger and a full tank will most likely do it in 8.6 or as close as bear in mind the manufacturer figure is an average of many runs
some days will be quicker some will be slower

Do all the manufacturers time their cars with a passenger and a tank of fuel?

Surely by doing it with an empty tank and no passengers they could imporve the 0-60 times on paper, without falsely advertising their cars?

Peugeot do their tests with 2 passengers and a full tank of fuel!

i was just going by what i had read with respect for fiats testing i would assume all manufacrturers vary their testing methods and ergo none can be taken as gospel

a slightly more accurate method is going by say evo's times or sumink where there is a constant involved possibly??

Perhaps they like to test them with the extra weight, therefore knowing that they will record slower 0-60s and be classfied as a lower insurance group?

Possible.

Possible.

i'd go along with that

i'd say its also to save face incase the car is having a bad day when tested by a mag or sumink

Could I have a quick one?? most of my mates have peugeots gti's varying from the 106gti through the range to the 306gti-6 and I often go to their meets as they are pretty local - mainly Westerham or Notcutts Maidstone. On these meets is the usual have a play along the way and i can out accelerate the 106 and 205 1.9 gti's and stay with the 306's till about 70-80 where they start to pull away. my car is completely standard - no mods at all. Going by the book stats I should surely be the slowest by far but I'm not and the guys I know don't hang about. Not trying to brag about it - I was surprised to find it was capable of going so well and so were my mates. Most slagged it off as a pile of S**te when I got it but now most respect it!!
I would love to get it on a rolling road to find out exactly what it's producing but i'm abit confused now if people are saying the graphs you get aren't worth the paper they're printed on.

just for the fun of it

I know exactly what you mean. When I had my HGT, my mate had a 106 gti and another mate had a mk2 Clio 172. I could pull away from the 106 by a couple of car lengths from 0-100 and there was basically nothing in it between me and the clio until about 80mph when he gained about a car length to 100. You can seriously suprise people with a good HGT. I wouldnt have thought it if i hadnt owned one, as the book stats are so contradictory. Part of the reason the 0-60 times for the HGT are booked fairly low is due to the fact it cannot hit 60mph in 2nd gear also. Bit of a change in my Cupra which does 75 in 2nd and 105 in 3rd  !!!
When i was looking to buy my HGT though, i must have test driven 8 or 9 which were not much cop. Then i came across mine which just felt so much quicker and responsive than the rest. It really depends on whether you get a good one.
