im having a few problems with my 2000 punto elx. It sometimes starts perfectly then the next it wont. It soubds as if everything is working fine but it just wont start. plus my next problem is my speedometer, rev counter and everything else on my dashboard isnt working. Please help. I have no idea what this can be

My 53 Punto Sporting just cut out dead while travelling at 60 mph. The complete instrument panel totally ceased to function. When I tried to re-start it, it turned over OK but wouldnt start. After about 15 min the instrument panel suddenly came back to life and the car started. It did this a further 2 times, but at low speed.

It went in for its first service and I asked them to check the problem out and they said if it happens again it will need to go in for a new body ECU (under warranty)

heard of a few mk2 puntos getting whole new dash on warenty

My complete instrument panel was replaced but this was not because it completely failed. It had all sorts of faults. You could switch the ignition on from cold and the temperature gauge would go straigh up to half way. In the morning without the ignition on there would be various warning lights on. It started with the airbag warning light flicking on then off sometimes when the brake pedal was pressed then proceeded to all sorts of problems over about 3 weeks until the panel was replaced. They also replaced an airbag control unit at the same time

All this happend before the cutting out problem as above.

It has to go back again as the airbag warning light is on all the time now.

Its a lovely car to drive and looks good, is well equiped with A/C & CD changer, electric sunroof etc., but component reliability is questionable, particularly the electronics

thanx everyone. the car is now starting fine but still no dash board working. It has come on a few times after driving for a while, I then set the clock while it was working and now it doesnt come on at all. Apparantly my local Fiat garage has never heard of this problem (yeah right) but hopefully all will be well soon. i will keep yoy updated. thanx again
