Good evening All,

The Check Engine light came up a few days ago and car started running really rough (misfiring). I took it to my mate (who's a mechanic, but doesn't work on Fiats), and he splugged in his OBD Fault Reader, and it came up with Fault Code 0351 - Ignition Coil 1 & 4, which he could not clear.

He took the HT Leads off and found on Lead 1 that the inner of the HT Lead was broken and still attached to the spark plug. So, as the Fault Code indicated Ignition Coil 1, he suggested I bought a new set of HT leads. I bought these and changed them over, the engine started running fine again and he was able to clear the fault code, so everything appeared sorted.

However, the damn light came back on again today and the engine was misfiring again, so I took it back to my mate, plugged the reader in and the same Fault Code 0351 is coming up again and it won't let him clear it.

He says it could be the Ignition Coil Pack, but didn't want me going out and spending my hard earned on one in case something else was the problem. He suggested I check with people who know more about Fiats to see if this was a common problem, as the only thing he knows to try is replacing the Ignition Coil Pack.

I've got my fingers crossed that someone out there can tell me how to sort this out, hopefully cheaply, cos I'm really skint at the moment !!

Also, will it do any damage to the engine continuing to drive it the the check engine light on and running rough, as my wife needs to take kids to school/nursery and get to work, and its the only car we've got (n)

Thanks in advance for any help guys (y)

the most common fault on the 1.6 tends to be the injectors failing, they can be checked by seeing what the resistance across the 2 terminals of the injector is, it should be around 15ohms, check all 4 and see if any have large differences in resistance.

you can replace them with ones from a scrappy but check the resistance on them before buying.

Nice one Ry, thanks for your quick reply as usual (y)

I wouldn't know where to start even looking for Injectors !! But I'll ring my mate with your reply, and I'm sure he'll know !!

Thanks again, Ade

if ECU thinks the coil is faulty then it most likely is, but in order to prove it and prevent wasting money, swap the coils over (swap over the primary wires and the lead pairs 1 & 4, 2 & 3. scan it again. If the code now indicates coil B (2 & 3) then change the coil pack. If it doesn't move to the other coil, there is a problem with the plugs, plug leads, primary circuit wiring or ECU.
Driving it in this condition will destroy the CAT (won't happen/manifest itself for a while), and may damage the ECU..

Thanks for your reply Stylers, I've only just seen it so I will forward it onto my mate cos he's the one who will be doing the work, cos I'm completely auto-illiterate

Cheers mate (y)
