re scraping noises

p reg 38,000 standard wheels bought 4 years ago never had a problem until today cannot get it checked out until monday and i am scared to drive it in case i make it worse thanks for responding

Re: re scraping noises

have you checked the bearing, my old astra had the same problem but that was mostly when i was on the motor way. you never know. buddy

re scraping noises

bearings? do you mean the joints (sorry I am a woman not supposed to know about these things) the mechanic I spoke to mentioned it could be that thanks for responding

Re: re scraping noises

Jack the front left-hand (as it's when you are turning right that you get the noise) side of the car up and grab the wheel with both hands: one at the 12 o/clock position and one at the 6 o/clock position and try to rock the wheel towards and away from you. If there is any movement then the bearing may be gone.

Shabash!

re scraping noises

I have just checked the MOT list and it had new wheel bearings fitted 18/2/03 could they be faulty?? I will try your trick anyway though cheers

Re: Re: re scraping noises

im not say it is definetely the bearings it just sounds like the same thing as what went wrong on my astra. buddy

re scraping noise

yeah a sort of whinney noise like metal scraping against netal if that makes any sense my hubbie is telling me not to drive it incase the wheel falls off (but he is probably just taking the mick) it just started today and I had to drive about 75 miles home okay on straight road only when turning right

Re: re scraping noise

It could be they didn't tighten the wheel hub nut (big bastard one in the middle) up enough as it has to be done up REALLY REALLY REALLY tight.

It doesn't take much extra play in the bearing for things to go wrong.
