Technical HELP my engine is knackered

I have a punto sporting 1.2 16 valve,the engine started rattling as if there is no oil in it, it sounds as if all the tappets have gone but i know this cant be possible for them all to go in an instant just like that. i would be most greatful if someone could help me sort this problem out.

i could also do with the torque settings for the cylinder, head and the timing marks positions, cant get a manual for love or money.

I dont mean this with any cruelty but as you missed the punto section by a few inches are you sure you didnt put the oil in the screenwash hole.

Is the Punto engine that small that you cant see it if you put a haynes manual on top of it. Suprised Fiat bothered witha bonnet had they known that.
Pete, does you handbook cover your car in the same way? I will have a look to what covers the Bravo, we could be onto something here!

The punto sporting engine is the same engine as in my Bravo (I think). Does the tapping sound disappear when the engine is warmed up?

If so, sounds like you may just need a touch more oil in it. The same happens to mine if the oil is not on the max marker.

Its the gremlins trying to get out. If you turned you stereo down below concord take off decibels you may even hear them pleading...leeet meeee ooooout, leeeeet meeeeee ooooooooooouttttt

Lol. What dya mean Nige? It wasnt that loud when you heards it? (Its louder now tho )

Plus the stereo is marvellous. If you turn it up, you cant hear how bad the engine sounds. It also eliminates and strange knocking sounds - thereforeif you cant hear it, problem does not exist!

We have Fiat Punto 75 that is missing at high revs. Can anyone provide the timing marks setting and suggest what the problem may be?

Floyd, one thing to try before you get all mechanical is check that all the earth straps for the feed wiring to the coils are tight. I spent bloody hours working out the misfire on my Barch until I noticed that! It only occured at high revs to start with with the vibration of the engine, then gradually got worse as thet bolt slowly loosened!
