Hi,

Recently bought a 2016 to Fiat Ducato non ad blue twin EGR. And starting to regret my decision 😂

A couple of days after buying it the EML flashed up and after taking it to the garage the codes

P0487-74 actuator slipping
P0486-13 circuit open

on advice of the mechanic and agreement of the garage I bought it from it’s booked in to be remapped and deleted on Thursday. Facebook has led me here advising against it.

Any help would be much appreciated and comments telling me it’s not a huge issue welcomed hah

For context I paid £7800 for the van 90,000 miles and looking to convert to a camper

I am not an expert on the twin EGR system, but from what I have read on this forum and elsewhere, I am afraid that your misgivings may be correct. On the brighter side it seems that some of the problems can be overcome. I am aware of one lady owner who is currently touring in France after having struggled previosly.
The longest thread on the forum is devoted to twin EGR issues .See here.

Welcome to the forum.
The Twin Egr model is famous for a particular failure mechanism.
Now i'm not suggesting yours is suffering from this, but reading this will give you an idea of how complex the EGR/DPF system is.
IT also gives a flavour of how USing live data from Multiecuscan can help.
In order to do this you would need a copy of multiecuscan on a windows laptop and collect data (using a specific template) from a 30 min run.

Now one last question at 2016 are you sure its a twin egr. Where is the Dpf, low down on offside or high up behind the engine?

Hi

Both these fault codes are related to the EGR valve, but I don't know if this is the high pressure one or the low pressure one. The code definitions often imply a wiring problem such as "open circuit" or "short to ground". It could indeed be that you have a fault in the wiring. However, exactly the same codes can be thrown when there is a mechanical issue such as a partial blockage somewhere which is causing the valve to behave unexpectedly, even if there is nothing wrong with the electrical side of things. The codes are only a guide as to what area to look at.

The attached drawing shows the twin EGR setup. The two EGR circuits are provided to cope with both low power and high power operating conditions.

I would want assurances from the garage that a remap and delete would solve all the problems. Removing or disabling emissions equipment is technically illegal.

P0486 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor B Circuit
P0487 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Throttle Position
P0487 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Throttle Position Control Circuit
P0487 EGR position derives positive DC motor (opening insufficient)
I'm asuming the HPegr is blocked/ stuck and motor is struggling. the Sensor B any one know which sensor this is. If i could get live data we could be sure which egr hp or lp. in my database of codes there is no reference to LPEGR.
the 486-13 is open 'open circuit' possibly means there's a break in the wiring loom or connector at some point?
@Sb1207 i started this thread before you joined as I was wanting other other input.

I hope things are looking a bit clearer now.
