As title.

I have a 52 reg 1.6 Active 5 door

However, got a couple of questions.

1. How to reset 'service due' indicator on start up? without going to dealer. Is there a way I can do this myself, as it must be possible to do without the service tool (is it called examiner???)

2. Heard about the indicators flashing when activating the alarm. How do I get this to happen? Seems like a good idea to indicate when you have pressed the button.

and a couple of points.

1. Several months ago my airbag warning light came on, went to dealer (Priory of Mansfield) and was sorted on warranty. It was the passenger seat occupancy detector wiring. Is this a common fault on Stilo, as I know it is on other FIAT cars?

2. Last week, wife driving, engine warning light comes on, display says engine fault. Engine would only idle, not rev AT ALL. So it was totally undrivable. Anyway, had it towed to dealer (same as above) only to be told it was the ECU and was not covered by warranty as the car had not had it's 2nd service. (22,500 miles on clock and 2 years & 3 WEEKS old, and it should have had a service at 2 years old whatever the mileage). Total cost for replacement was quoted at £350. Anyway, after lots of conversations with various people at FIAT (not the dealership, as they are just in the middle between me and FIAT) managed to persuade them that they should do it for free, as the ECU should last considerably longer than 2 years and 3 weeks.

What is the general feeling about the car, the dealers and parts and servicing.

Any answers welcomed

Welcome to the forum first off

Second off kick up a stink you are well within your rights to get that done under warranty !!!

Get eh mto sort it and get it serviced by them that way they can't argue again :p

Going by information from previous threads. The dealer network is very variable in quality, some have no quarms about doing work under warranty, other do everything they can to avoid it.

Getting the service indicator reset is supposedly almost impossible without the dealer resetting it.

Any main dealer can get the indicators to flash when the alarm is activated/deactivated, I think most, if not all, would charge for this.

Many electrical problems are common on Fiats, it would appear, but it varies from car to car how frequently things occur. Almost all are covered on the warranty, just be sure to keep the servicing up to date, so the dealers have no ligitimate excuse not to do it.

Oh and welcome, hope you enjoy the forum and your car.

Getting the indicators to flash when locking the doors has been covered in a number of threads. Tthe basic gist is that yes it can be done and the dealer should know how to do it - if they plead ignorance then point them towards technical bulletin 22 as this tells them what to do. All they will need is the electronic code for your Stilo which is found on the code card which you may or may not have received with your car - if you don't have it then your dealer can source this for you (probably cost you about a fiver to obtain)

As for being charged this very much depends on the dealer - got mine doe when car was in for warranty work and wasn't charged but as with most things involving a FIAT dealer, your mileage may vary!

I had kinda the same i have a 53 plate stilo 3 door 1.4 16v 6 speed and that did it on the drivers seat all it was was a wiring loom under the seat sorted it myself just a quick fiddle not done it since

I had mine from Derby Sunwin been fine with me was going to mansfield but never had in the right model i wanted as it is closer to me asi live just of 28 m1

You mention the wiring loom under the seats!

Mine is going in on Monday to be fixed under warranty, and it is the passenger seat detector sensor - you can actually see it broken just under the leather seat on top; there is a knack of sitting in the seat and NOT making the warnings go off, lol - depends how big your ass is ;)

Hmm, not sure without going to check.....

I know the Ulysse has one, coz you put any load on that seat [say a few cartons of milk], and the sensor detects something and beeps like crazy at you.
