wen my engine is running, if i switch my headlights, neons and heater on my revs dramatically drop...
is this my alternator?????????????

Unlikely, just you're trying to get a lot of power from your electrical system, and the engine is having to work harder to counter balance it... I am assuming that it is idling??? it should be fine when you get the revs up and drive, but you won't have as much power... you could try a higher capacity battery.. Perhaps fixit pete may be able to help more.

Sounds like not enough power for a proper full spark. More powerful battery would help or just don't turn everything on at the same time!

If you pick up an alternator and spin it you will find it spins freely. If you were to connect a load across the terminals (ie try to draw current from it) then you would find it wouldnt spin, but be hard to turn. The more current you pull from the alternator, the harder it is to turn. Therefore current drain causes drag on the fan belt, and slows the engine.

On some older cars if you pressed the brake pedal the engine revs would drop, and I've seen many an owner spend hours on end looking for something that was affecting the throttle cable, thinking the pedals were catching each other, when it was only the brake lights pulling enough power from the alternator to slow down the engine at tickover.

Could be a sign your battery is low on power, or getting to the end of it's life, but otherwise I wouldn't worry about it too much.

thanx alot everyone, your all great on here.... everyones input was a great help! will probably buy a new battery..

I don't think it is the battery. Sounds more like the alternator. When you draw more current the alternator has to work harder ie the engine has to work harder to spin it. That is why it is trying to stall. Shouldn't do it normally. I say it is not the battery because really the battery is only there to start the car. The alternators job is to run all auxillaries plus charge whatever you take out of the battery from starting. That alternator has obviously become lazy not efficient. Would say loose connection worn brushes or slip ring, or possibly stiff bearings in the alternator itself.
If it was a buggered battery it would become difficult to start as it wouldn't hold charge
