Switched the lights on yesterday evening to test and sidelights - OK, Fog lights - OK headlights - NOT OK, as soon as i turned the headlights on the driver side headlight was making a noise like a motor going...any ideas?

I believe this is indicative of the electric levelling motor on the way out. Can I suggest you use the 'search this thread' button. I recall there is a VW part available to cure this that is cheaper than the FIAT equivalent...

Can it be disconnected to stop it without throwing a million errors up? lol
I replaced one of these a while back, was £36 delivered from SN Auto Spares, VW part number 1J0 941 295A contact: 02084981299
excellent ,but can you give more detail on how to change the motor please as i have the same irritating problem, cheers.
Remove the headlamp(s) and once you've taken the rear cover off of them it's 2 philihead screws you have to remove to be able to pull the motors out
