I've recently bought a new head unit to replace the crappy aftermarket one that was already in my punto, however the wiring looks like it was done by a blind man with one finger.. Back to the point, when I turn my engine off the headunit stays on.. is this normal or can I make it turn off with the engine?

Its normal on mk2 Puntos, dont know about mk1s. You can wire it up somehow to turn off with the ignition, how?? I dunno 
all you need to do is disconnect the live feed(not the memory feed) which is a constant live at the mo',and replace it with an ignition live E.G. a feed from the cigarrete lighter
generally(and i stress generally)the wire you want will be yellow on the back of the H/U,with the constant live being red
Most headunits come with a wiring diagram in the manual, because some cars didn't used to have wiring harnesses, check out the manual first... If you still have no luck, check out the manufacturers website, that'll probably have the information on... Oh, and whilst you're working on the connections, probably best to tidy them up so next time you do anything you don't have the same problem, maybe even lable the cables

don't fuack around cutting wires just swap the red and yellow over most head unit looms facilitate this as it is also a feature of the peugeot wiring
