Head unit error 1

I have a Fiat Marea Weekend JTD110 ELX with a standard head unit.

I hadn't used the car for about 4 days (looking after the kids at home and didn't need to use the car) so when I got in it one night I was a little concerned.

The head unit is now doing very strange things. It sometimes comes on !!!!, it can sometimes respond to me turning the volume up and down, it can sometimes do this about 2 or 3 seconds after I've turned it up or down.

It also doesn't find any radio stations. Today I put a tape in which played for about 2 mins and then tried to play it at fast forward speed.

After about 10 mins, it comes up with an "error 1" and doesn't allow me to switch off.

None of the remote control buttons on the steering wheel work at all.

If it's a write off, then I'll have to look at buying a new head unit, probably one with a CD instead.

I would appreaciate any help you can give.

If you're going to get a new one ( i would), then you will need a fascia adapter, and a smart lead to keep the steering controls.

I am very much favorable to KENWOOD units as I have always had them in my cars and have never had any problems whatsoever.

Do these after-market units make use of the remote controls on the steering wheel ?

I've not got a price for a replacement head unit from fiat yet.

you need an additional adaptor lead, only for use with certain makes.
