Re: Re: handles near enough disintigrated over night?

Similar has happened to mine this morning. However, mine is only around the lock (driver and passenger side) and not the full handle. I think the frost may have had something to do with it. I know what you mean about looking burnt.

Re: Re: handles near enough disintigrated over night?

Since i bought my car around 5 months ago now, the driver's side handle has been getting worse and worse. Had the burnt look happen to it shortly after i bought it.

Now, the rubbery plastic coating stuff that looks burnt on yours has actually cracked/split and is bending out of shape making its way off the handle. It's split so much i can clearly see the plastic handle underneath this material.

However, the passengers' handle is fine, not a mark on it, and it appears to be a harder plastic material.

Get a picture up on here and i'll identify whether it's the symtoms i had.

Mine have been dissolving for months now. It started on the passenger side, but all of them are falling to bits now. I suppose eventually I'll have to change the handles. Mines a 99 Brava. Seems a common fault.

Mine too

My driver's door has started splitting - but only now after four years.

Wrong type of frost?

hmmm

well im glad that im not the only one, but its kinda a crap situation we got here, as the handles are pretty important otherwise how do u get in!lol

tom, ill try n get a pic 2moro,

the funny thing is though, this did happen over one night, and it was frosty that morning, related or coincidence who knows.
might have to invest in some marea handles or rear brava ones, are there any chrome ones out yet??

Re: hmmm

When i bought my bravo i was immediatly aware of the disintegrating rubber on the handles what did i do u ask? well i just pealed the lot off to reveal a new set of shiny handles. i put a little clear silicon seal around the parts where the handle goes through the door to prevent water getting in. looks fine! i didn't peal of the rubber from surrond the lock itself however

Re: Re: hmmm

My car was frozen this morning when i got up so a good dose of De-Icer all over sorted it out, opened the car door and noticed i had De-Icer on it - Result a reaction with the plastic, it now loks burnt/bubbly and covers you in black!

Re: Re: Re: hmmm

that must be it!!!!

i did spray de icer on the night before as i had to take me lass home, wonder i i could sue the de icer company for some new fitted handles, jkn, lol

Nice new Handles

My handles are all messed up, due to sun, frost and some thieving bastard with a drill who drilled out the lock to get in and steal my rucksack.

Where can I get de-locked rear marea handles that will fit a '96 1.6 16V SX (heraldic blue) ?
