Technical Handbrake broken!! help!

Hi ppl, got a new handbrake today, sparco one, It would just slide over since the handbrake was too large...so I removed it, but not only did the handle come off but also the button and the plastic hook that goes around the latchit!

The problem is that ive been fiddling around for 2hrs, I carnt get it to pull far enough forward to fit behind the metal pushins that its supposed to sit on,,, I dont know what to do??

You that it has to be up againt the bar to be able to go infront of these indents but you have to push it down to get the hook over the metal latchit??

anyone had the same prob? any help please!!!

dont really get what the problem is but most likely you need to go under the car and slacken of the handbrake cable to give you enough slack to fit the lever and assembly,then once fitted take up the slack

dont know what car you got but you can slacken the handbrake cable on a mk2 punto from inside the car. you need to remove the rear ash tray just behind hand brake and there is a nut inside you turn to slacken or lossen teh cable.
